Gohbee Aviation Stinger 30-90 > Gohbee 50 help

I have been breaking in the engine on my Gohbee stinger 50. I removed the engine last night to check a few things and noticed this:

1. The head of the engine is rubbing on the front of the cooling shroud. This has rubbed enough to remove some of the blue anodizing from my Hyper 50. Should I remove some of the cooling shroud material???
2. The very top of the clutch is rubbing on the inside of the clutch housing (upper inside surface). Just slightly enough to remove the anodizing. I tried spacing the clutch and the clutch housing farther away but I am at the limits now. What can be done about this???
3. I am getting some sort of high frequency vibration. Does not appear to be from the blades. It is making the canopy vibrate and wobble. I noticed this as I have been slowly leaning out the engine since it is broken in and I want to get all my settings optimized. Very high frequency and seems to be centered near the engine as just the canopy and the fuel lines seem to vibrate. The tail appears ok. Any ideas on this???
If I can get this problems eliminated the appears to be a good flying heli. Just don't like that vibration and the rubbing of the engine on the shroud and the clutch rubbing. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks
Gary

Mid range

Yes, it is possible. I have only leaned the mid range a little. The back plate is still almost cool to the touch after I have finished a tank.
Do you think the extra vibration from the engine could be causing it to rub on the fan shroud? Or could the fact that it is rubbing on the fan shroud cause more vibration into the heli frame?

My head rubs on the front of the shroud as well. I think its just the oversized head on the hyper and I just let it rub. I'd rather have the cooling on the head.

Do you have a caliper and can check the height on the fan? I had an issue last summer where the fan was a mill or so too tall and caused the clutch to rub.

Clutch rubbing

Yes, I was actually thinking of machining down the fan hub about .015 inches. By my measurements, the clutch will still be fully inside the clutch hub. Probably not that big of a deal.
I leaned it out a little more this weekend. The vibration has reduced but is still there. I am going to remove the engine again and dial indicated the clutch, fan hub, and then the clutch hub, shaft, etc. Just see how much run out they have.

Do you have the washer black washer that comes with the engine under the fan? If so try taking it off. I don't run one on mine. As far as the head rubbing the shroud, I took the dremel tool to mine and carved out the front part of the shroud. I think Jody at Gohbee did the same to his. Never had a cooling problem with the OS50 Hyper. The backplate is still cool to the touch.

Gaanel,

If the fan is too tall contact David at Gohbee for a replacement. Also dunbare is correct about the washer. I think it even says to use it in the manual which is wrong.

just went thru that clutch thing and wound up having the top of the fan machined down, I think it was about 2MM. but was advised to use a rap 30 fan which worked real good and is still working, just too buzy to try the new one, also had to slot the motor mount holes, so Im assuming thier was a problem with production in that area. got about 10 flights on my 50 which now runs real well, but thier were some bugs, keep working with it, its a decent machine for the $$$

doing my part to piss off the oil tyrants>>>>93 geo metro 49 MPG
