Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > Avant EFX

I have big responsibilities, little money, and I can't fly yet!
But I'm just itching to build an Avant EFX.
What's the best way to go? Do I need to buy a Freya Evo 90 kit or will a 60/70 do? Are there any other, better routes? What other parts should I consider upgrading?
I'm in no hurry but would like to start. I'm just about to order three 9255 servos, or should I use same for throttle? Is there a fast/faster low torque servo that might be more suitable?
Any help appreciated.
I'm learning on a shuttle plus and Reflex.

Stay with a 50 size machine will be a lot cheaper, 90 are great but not for Beginner. The Avant a great machine but not to begin learning with.

If I were you I would start with en EVO 50 and one of the simulators and learn how to fly.

I have both an EVO 50 and an Avant and trust me when I say that the Avant will be way too much for a new pilot to handle. It is a beautiful bird and is really fast. Definitely not something you want to learn on.

If you get into an EVO 50 and get the basics down you can always sell it then upgrade to an Avant. Or build the Avant slowly while you learn on the 50 sized bird.

It is inevitable that you will crash while you are learning. I think very few can say they have not crashed while learning.

A simulator is a wise investment too. It will more than pay for itself with reduced crash costs.

I would start with a simulator and a 50 sized heli like the EVO-50.
Once you get comfortable and ready for a 90 and since you are in Ireland you can contact Trevor at Midland. He has some kind of a special deal with the EVO-90 and the Avant EFX that makes it really affordable.

Obviously I don't intend to learn on a 90, let alone an expensive combo of Evo and Avant. I have a shuttle and Reflex, once profficient on the shuttle surely I can jump to the Avant? I can't see the point in buying a 50 first, surely theres not a lot of difference betweena 30 and a 50?

pgrbff as the guys said get a 50 first, a 30 is good for umm hovering? A 50 is a beast compared to a 30. If you get a 90 let alone a fast heli like the Avant EFX it wouldn't be long before them deep pockets would be empty.

[size=huge]Give me a break !!!
[size=small]Read the post. I'm not in a hurry, I like buildingwhen I can fly competantly I'll try the EFX. What I do know is that I'll never call a shop and order everything in one go.
In the meantime if I need to go via a 50 maybe I'll look at that too.
And remember, just because I'd like an Avant, doesn't mean I think I can handle it now, and doesn't neccessarily mean I have to be the most dedicated, serious flyer around. I just want to have fun!!

Then get the Avant and see if it intimidate you. Or just get you the Evo 90 and fly that for a while.
I would fly the Evo 90 and then buy the Avant kit.
Just my two cents.

You didn't make it clear that you have a little experience with your sim and current heli.

By all means get the Avant and have fun building! Just make sure you either know the basics of flying or have someone who does help you before you take it up.

It is an AWESOME heli!!! You will not be disappointed.

Thanks.
I don't claim to know it all, far from it. But I do like the look of the Avant and I'm afraid I don't think I'll ever understand extreme flying - but I'd like to know the potential is there.
So do I need to buy a Freya 90 or will a 60/70 do?

Oh, I forgot to say, I don't think I'll ever be intimidated by a R/C helicopter. 6 weeks ago I broke a bone in my hand starting my Shuttle, but that was stupidity and carelessness!

You need to buy an EVO 90 kit, and an Avant kit. You can put a 60, 70, or 90 engine in it, the only thing that changes is the gearing.

There is a couple other small things you need to get, but it is listed on Carbon Xtremes website. Follow their instructions and you will be all set.

I think a 60 or 70 would be a waste of an Avant. Probably not any more powerful than your 30 sized heli. If you are going to build it then build it right and put a 90 in it. Go with either a YS or OS's new SZ-H engine.

You can also keep an eye out for a used Freya to convert, then you could save a bit of money on the conversion. Since you won't be using a large portion of the donor heli anyway, you'll have a chance to go through everything and make sure it's correct.

Great idea eurylokhos. Here is an example of a great deal! http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t230736p1/

I would have bought this had I been looking for an EVO kit to convert. This conbined with an EFX would make a great heli!!!!

Check out some more Avant photos in my gallery.

Well, that's what I did. I picked up a used X-Spec. Great heli, flies beautifully as it is, but I plan on turning it into an Avant after the new heli joy wears off and I start itching for something new. I always get bored and want a new heli to play with after 6 months or so (sometimes less, sometimes more). I agree, that one in the link is a great deal, I considered buying it to have a spare, but the cash just isn't there for me right now.
