Blades

That't what i was about to say Jeff. I also told Anni this, and that's one of the reasons why Anni put smaller blades on it. I think the blades ar in the same lifting performance as 710mm on a PG. The zimmerman is doing the most i think. I've seen it climb and pump, and the BME motor is performing very good at this setup. My PG has about 1/2 kg more to carry arround. And yes it doesn't climb that fast.

We have a guy at our flying field with a raptor 30. He has put in a OS .50 SXH in it. The performance of Anni's machine is in that region.

So Anni, you should be proud of this machine.
Put the bug (internal joke, maybe Anni will explain) in and fly it.

Also keep in mind he carried a 4,8V battery pack with it to rule out the glitches. This is about 200g extra weight!

Jeff you are absolutely right about the stinger head as MRS already confirmed.

Paul: Correct. The UBEC was on the ignition with a 3S li-poly as the power source.

Marcel: The maggot (fuel magnet) is in (thanks to bob) and im looking forward to my next flight. Hoping to take it inverted next time

BTW, i think i forgot to mention that im getting a solid 1750 rpm on the head now and this is with the engine not fully broken in (i think) and also running a bit rich on the needles as well as running 33:1 fuel mixture. So.... Im speculating that when i switch to 50:1 fuel, the engine breaks in, and i lean out the high needle a bit i might just get lucky and be able to get 1850 or a bit more. I also have a raptor CNC upgrade fan unit which i havent installed yet which im told will push alot more air so if the overheating issue shows up again i will put that on. In other words im still not out of options / possible solutions if the overheating starts again.

Update:

Its been inverted as of today! My patience has paid off and im pretty happy with the results as of right now. I have had about 7 or 8 flights without any problems now. I was able to get some video of it today but unfortunately not with a decent camera and the camera did not allow zooming in after you have already begun recording so its pretty hard to make out much. Ill try and get some better video this sunday. Until then here is a short teaser.

Video 1 (30mb non-streaming... sorry!)

Update:

Hmmm... Have had quite a bit more time with it and while its holding together and running fine now its not got enough power to do much other than FFF and some VERY light 3D. My trex's beat its A$$ when it comes to power. I need a 13-14T pinion for this to work better. I think the engine could work nice but the headspeed just needs to be higher than 1720rpm to get any real performance out of it. Now im actually considering machining them myself. Im gonna give a call to the shop i use and see about machining a few of them.

I modified a raptor for use with the mvvs26 so I can see your frustrations.

Machining new pinion gear will cost you a fortune if you only order one or two.
You can order a predator gears and than all you have to do is machine the adapter ring for the spur gear.Shouldn't take longer than 10 min.
Myself I used 90 spur and 15 tooth pinion combination. There is no problem hitting 2000 rpm on the head, but at the same time it does not like anything lower than 1700 (that's where the vibration starts). At 1900 rpm it shots up like a rocket but than the temps climb to 130C and the engine spits black goop out of the exhaust.
Takes forever to clean it off.

Try to avoid using the drill. Is not as smooth as the starter and often causes premature one way failure.
I know I learned the hard way.

Coolheli,

Ive been using the drill now for more than a month and had no problems with it. I should post some updated pictures of the machine... its evolved a bit more by now. Still a work in progress tho...

Thanks for the tip about the pinions... i may have to try that if i cant get my friend to machine me a couple.
