Ok...well... this is coming together! Thanks to some help from a flying buddy (MRS) the motor is mounted finally! The only modifications I had to do was a tiny bit of dremeling on the frame to allow clearance for the choke lever, we fabricated 2 add on strips of alum. to the stock motor mount (also drilled and threaded 2 new holes in the stock motor mount to mount the add on pieces), and we used a predator gasser mixing lever with a standoff and a long screw for the throttle lever. Im quite happy with how it has turned out. All other parts are stock. CF could have easily been used as well to modify the throttle lever.

Just a few of the things left to do...

* mount revmax sensor
* mount gyro (SL720)
* mount tail servo to boom
* replace fuel tubing with proper gas fuel tubing
* mount ignition system
* cannabalize my 3S1P 3500mah packs and solder up 2 x 2S1P (1 for ignition and 1 for the rest)
* mount 1 Koolflight Systems 6V Ubec for the ignition and 1 Arizona dual output voltage regulater for the rest (regardless of some people claiming that 2 cell lipo should be fine on the CH Ignition system i cant find any documentation to back this up - everything i have read says 4.8v-6v input)
* Get a fuel magnet (Anyone know a FAST european source for these?)
* run wiring, mount the rest of the electronics, and CLEAN IT ALL UP!

CG should be perfect with 4 lipo cells in the front with the rest of the electronics (sans gyro) and the ignition system on the rear side panel by the fuel tank.

Swash is all set-up as are the pitch curves. Ill be getting +11.5 / -11.5 on this bird to start with.

Here are some pics of how everything looks now.

THanks! I cant wait either although since this is my first 90 and the largest thing i have flown before this is an EP-8 i dont know how good my perspective will be but i will take some vids when its flying. I think im going to be a bit afraid of it in the beginning and that will keep me from doing the type of flying i would do with say my trex's but we will see.

Anni, why would you need a regulator for your ignition? I thought you could run it at 3-8.5 V without a problem.

Harris,

Could you tell me where you got this information? I cant seem to find it anywhere. 6v is the max from what material i can find to read.

Anni I don't remember where I read this. The only thing I can find is that you can use 4-5 NiCd or a Duralite:

What Battery should I use?

The unit is designed to run on 4.8-6vcd (4 or 5 cell nicad packs) of 800ma or better. The unit will also work with Dura-lites.

yes this is the same info i could find and nothing about it handling 8.4 volts....soooo.... i guess its back to the idea of the regulator.

Here is a dilemma...

Use a header tank with this and the stock clunk or lose the header tank and put in a Fuel Magnet?

Your thoughts?

Header

Anni,
Skip the header tank, there is no need as the carb on this engine pumps (draws) the fuel with no problems.
I've performed multiple flips, rolls, inverted hover, inverted FFF and never a problem.
Not sure about the fuel magnet, I use a pick up (clunk) that includes a filter. The Sten filter is used in many small gasoline engines and costs USD3,50. The collective wisedom of RR suggests this is the best filter/pickup/clunk for a gas engine.

This is the only filter on the helo. My fuel can has a the same filter on the pick up and an in-line, gasoline, lawnmower fuel filter as well.

Two times told

Annihila,

Now you have the opinion of two people.
The Sten Filter is what I use in the Predator Gasser and thats whats called also a fuel magnet. It takes out almost the last drop out of the tank without bubbles. It's also a very good filter.

Ceramic filter

I just tried to fit the ceramic filter into the Raptor 90SE and the
tank opening is just too small.

Ok just a small update:

all up weight before fueling is gonna be 5145 grams / 11 lbs 5 oz. This is minus the canopy as well. How does this stack up to a normal .90 sized glow machine? Is my bird a huge cow compared to glow .90's ?

Still need to clean up some wiring in the front Everything behind the radio tray is cleaned up tho.

Anni I think it's a good idea to wrap your receiver and lipos with some soft padding. Just in case...

Nice job Annihila,

You may want to make an extension to the fan shroud to insure good cooling. Any lightweight material will do as long as it directs the air from the fan to the head.

As for weight, my Gasser-X weighed in at 11.8 lbs which is heavy. Didn't weigh it before the conversion but it does feels heavier in an auto.

Well here's the latest news....

Damn! All kinds of problems today. Not big ones but pretty annoying little ones. Where do i start....

Ok i finished it! At least i thought i did... Ill take some pics and post them later... It looks sweet i think. However its not flying. Here's a run down of what happened today.

First off I couldnt start it. Why? Couldnt find anything with enough torque to start it. This is my first gasser so im a bit underprepared on the starter accessories. I had a starter which said it was rated to start a 30cc engine but I also didnt have any lead batteries to run it on so i ran 4 lipos in a 6S2P 4200mah configuration to power the thing. It wasnt enough. Argh... went to the car and hooked it up to the car battery... also wasnt enough to crank the engine. ARGH! Sat and thought for a minute and went and found a cordless drill. That turned it over but barely and not for long before the battery was done. ARGH ARGH! Hmmm... what now... Finally we got a 220V corded drill and plugged that into the wall and THAT turned it over! YAY!

So there we are turning over the engine and holding the blades in case the thing decides to go to full throttle and we hear a nasty noise. We stop and have a look and it looks like the clutch is a bit tight in the clutch bell or else the drill was spinning it fast enough that the clutch engaged and then with us holding the blades the !^%#$#& main gear broke. Not stripped... the teeth just broke off. WTF! A closer look reveals that this main gear is really crap. There is no nylon or delrin or something in this gear. Its just plain plastic and its crap! I will be replacing this gohbee main gear with a raptor one. However its good to find this out now and not later... No problem... Take the head off and finally get the engine started.

Wow... very kewl... this thing is gonna be nice. Engine is running pretty nice. Still needs some needle adjustment but i will worry about that when the head is back on and we can do it with some load.

All in all not much was done today but i learned that im gonna need a super starter for this thing and also got to finally hear the engine run.

Im thinking about just taking a 18v cordless drill or something to start it with. I know it will get easier to start when its broken in a bit but damn. There sure was a lot of running around just to find something with enough torque to start this thing. Also MUCH more vibration that i was expecting. Im told that its completely normal but coming from only running electric helis till now its just MUCH more than i was expecting. I dont know why... If i thought it through i should have known it was gonna be like holding a chainsaw in your hand but yeah... still was quite a shock... Fuel helis... not sure how i feel about them yet... it sure is something different tho I think i like it
