Here they finally posted it.
After all the time I spent working on, and all the hours logged in the air on my pig, you let some one fly your mission and see what happens...very sad. Just read the whole article and view the pics.

That heli had a very interesting history. A lot better than the planes I'm flying now (JFK-BOS about 10,000 times, yippee.)

I flew on this bird quite a few times while in that unit. My buddy Shane was the FE at the time.

Very sad to see an old friend like that

OTOH everyone survived. The aircraft can be replaced, the soldiers cannot. Thanks Joel, for doing a difficult job, and doing it well.

What a small world.

p.s. those pilots doing nap of the earth was some crazy stuff!

p.p.s. i was there from OIF 1 into OIF 2 2003 to 2004

I was wondering if someone that KNEW FOR SURE would zip a line here and let me know if a Chinook (CH-47) or the CH-46 have an engine for each rotor or just one real big engine with some sort of powertrain between the two rotors..??

Thanks fellas.............Dave..

The Chinook has two jet turbines mounted on the rear turret they drive both rotors from combined propshafts, you can see one turbine on my flying model -

I cant say for the CH-47 but on the CH-46 the engines have a shaft that runs out the back of the engine and into a mixbox that is attached to the aft trasmision, The aft trany then spins a vertical shaft that runs straight out of it up to the aft rotor head, Then there is a set of sync shafts that run from the aft trany fwd to the fwd transmision and that turns the fwd head.

If you look at the ch-46 and look at the top the small hump that runs from front to back That is where the sync shafts are...
