When is the maiden flight?

Rob,

It looks good, when do you fly it? I was/am considering one eventually, but I will probably go for another nitro...probably 50size.

I know how you feel about the "timeline" I have a gas powered boat that I started to put together like wild fire, now... over a year later, its still not complete. I hope to get to work on it soon, unless I do end up with another heli!!! Perhaps if I sell it, I can then purchase another heli. I keep telling myself that I am not going to sell it before I actually finish it and play with it, but it kind of makes me go Hmmmmmmm.

Do you have a 8cell on it? Any mods?

Flight

Thanks guys! Mopzilla, the guitar is a Ibanez RG770DX with razor saw inlays. When I used to play Death Metal, I called it the Mystery Machine. Oh well, it's just a wall decoration now. I have more fun with helis!

First flight of the Honret was at my local clubs field. Boy was it windy! Way too windy for a fixed pitch heli. Like 5-7mph winds. Some friends were trying to act as a wind breaker but every time a gust would come up it would bubble up in the air. It definately takes some getting used to.

Otherwise. With the whole completed canopy and fin sets. I was hovering it in my living room last night. The pictures were taken just a few minutes after the flight. I live in a small one bedroom apartment. And with all my work benches, computer desk and entertainment in the living room I was left with a 6x6 foot area to hover in. It did great! I am running (8) Sanyo 720mah NiMH packs. I timed my first hover with canopy and came out to be about 8 min and 20 seconds.

It is a fixed pitch and modified it with the type of flying i was only planning on doing (simple hovering aerobatics like pirohuetting circles and nonsense like that). Added .020 teeter springs and a some coning angle to get the blades of the tips in line with flybar. These two simple mods takes about 30 minutes to do and makes for a super steady hover. It does pitch up bit if you try to do fast forward flight, but a person would want to go collective kit if they plan on doing that.

The mods are shown in one of the Rotory Modeler issues a few months ago with my buddy Steve R. . From what I understand the concept came from the old GMP crickets in the late 70's early 80's and some other helis. Walt Ferar had also tried a few of these mods when the kits initially came out but have long since adapted the flybarless and CP designs. I do recommend his Hollow Steel main shaft that Walt makes, man they are nice and strong.

All could be had from Steve C's site at www.DreamHobbies.com
