My brother was spooling up on his first flight today and off shot the tail blade grip, and blade. The bearings races are still in the tail grip and whats left is on the spindle. This is on a heli with less than a gallon on it. pics to come.

I don't believe I ever heard of a head grip failing. I would call that an unusual case.

By the way, are you the author of "Yellow River"

Bearings

I have to agree with Tim on this...
I have been flying mine since last April (05) and no problems...
Any idea of the head speed when it left??? Or was the bolt still in it?? Possible, but not the norm... that is for certain...

Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

So do I if I drink enough coffee

As TimT said it has happened but out of 700+ helis it's only been a few that the bearings let go.

I believe of the potential reasons why it happend could have been:

1. defective tail grip bearings
2. tail grip bearings that were not lubricated sufficiently

I bought a lot of used Tiger 50 parts and some of the tail grip assemblies that I got had some seriously destroyed bearings. Like, the outter shell was cracked open, the balls had gone all over, the races were shredded. Best I can tell, these bearings weren't very well lubricated.

Best way to keep lube in these is by using the Greaser and using a good grease. I'm saving my pennies for some DuPont Krytox grease for all my bearings.

bearings

i had these same bearing failures on my venture. sometimes it would fly for months with no problems, change out for new bearings and they would only last a couple of flights. i did have the main shaft bearings get really notchy along with the lower pinion bearing on tiger #1, but after i swapped out the bearings with new jr bearings left over from my venture parts stock i have had no bearing failures and none on the tail grips. in a nutshell i dont think that you can pin bearing failures just to the tiger, im sure that this is spread throughout the various mfg. of helicopters since they all buy their bearings from the same bearing mfgs. there are only a few bearing mfgs. out there. brian
