That is one sharp Avant. I took mine out today for the second time, and does it ever RIP. Mine has an OS91SZH with the OMI mod, Hitec 6975's on the CCPM, CSM720 and 6965, with a 6635 for throttle. It is so quick. I let a couple of guys take it for a spin, and the reactions were always the same, first the jaws drop, and then the big permagrin Here is a picture for enjoyment. (big file warning until Mark has done the processing)

Looks good, how does that new OS run? I am thinking of maybe upgrading my motor to that setup, but cant see I need the power of it though, my cspec rips on that SB-18 pipe. I may just have to get another avant and go the CZ route.

Only about a gallon through it so far, but very impressed. It has GOBS of power, and seems as set and forget friendly as my 2 YS's, and even smoother than they are. Might make me an OS guy after a long time flying the YS engines.

After running a shaft drive and gears for a dozen years, I have been running the belt on the Avant, and I love it. I can throw the stick to each corner and never worry about the belt/tail. Gears....I worry about.

I loaded my belt so hard that I have no doubts that Stalin or Hitler after reincarnation became a belt on my heli as a punishment!
Damn I simply don't think about gears and stuff I simply bang the sticks and do whatever I want to!!!
Hardcore or no core!

Thanks for the input. I've just had such miserable experiences with belt drives that I was reluctanct to pour a bunch of money into a heli with a belt driven tail. Maybe I'll spring for that Avant kit yet. Thanks. steve.

I'll add my 2 cents.

Hirobo belt drives are absolutely bullet proof, on both their 50's & 90's. Never had a problem with them. It's so good Hirobo's two latest FAI helis use them instead of shaft drive - the Freya EX2 and Eagle3 WC Belt Drive edition.

The old Vigor belt drives used to slip a lot which is what Curtis is referring to.

With the Avant belt drive, it is fly & forget! Its light weight more than makes up for any extra drag the belt has over shaft.

The Avant can accommodate a shaft drive as well if that is what you prefer
