| DreamhobbiesThere were other R/C folks there but we never got a chance to really go over there and take pictures. It was a packed house!
The Compton Air Show (held at Compton Airport in Southern California) is a community function held every year. Of course, R/C flight being a facet of the theme. They had some fixed wing guys as well as some control line action. The normal heli club that had been previously attending the show for the past few years were The Knights of the Round Table ( I think they fly at El Toro).
From what I understand they were unable to participate this year so they asked a few members of CHAPS (Compton Helicopter Association Pilot Society -- Charter # 4418) Some other people familiar with the whole situation may be able to provide a little more information than I.
So Steve from Dream Hobbies agreed to go and fly the demonstrations and provide a static display. So then Steve asked me (Big Rob from WorldofRC..woohoo!) if I could help out. Of course I agreed, not only to help a friend but to participate in something I'd never done before. This was an active airport, so full size planes and helicopters were landing and taking off every 5 minutes. It was neat having full size birds landing only 50 feet behind you. Especially when the Ranger and Mercy Air came in, it was a job to hold down the EZUp.
In order for the R/C guys to do the demos, they had to shut down the whole airport! We were allowed to fly a 30 minute demonstration in the morning and another 30 minute demo in the afternoon.
A big shout out goes to Mark for putting on a great demo in the morning. Another shout out goes to the nice fellow (I never got his name) who flew on the opposing end of the runway with me in the afternoon. Steve was about to do a fliight, but they had to re-open the airport to full size aircraft.
It was a fun and exciting event. Even though we were asked, "How much does it cost?..... How high does it go?..... Is this battery operated?.... Does this run on gas?"
...every minute of the show.
I won't hesitate to go if they ask me to participate again next year! I just must remember one thing. Never...never ever...never ever ever...eat Compton Cajun fried Catfish...ever again!!!
