Hello all,
I've been a bit quiet on here recently: too much work.
I've now organised getting a mould done from my Cheyenne. As any imperfections in my original will come through onto the mould, we have decided to correct as many little blemishes and scratches as possible first. This will slow things up a bit, but it seems sensible. As I suspected, 'm going to have to break the wings off in order to mould it. They are too thin to be mouldable and will have to be done by other means, possibly vac formed of fabricated.

We're hoping to get the moulds made after Easter sometime.

Hi all, I dont know if any off you guys are interrested in purchasing one of these old birds. I have one sitting in my shed,it's my brothers. Give me a idea of how much you would pay for it and I'll see if I can tempt him. It has had hardly any flying time if any and it is the original thing right down to the air retracts.
If your not interested I can still be of some help if you need some.

Hi all, looks like some of you have got his interest. The shipping looks to be the killer.
I don't know if you guys can do better than $465.oo AUDollars.
Here are the measurements. The cardboard box will measure 1400mm long 55" x 550mm wide 22" x 300mm 12" high. The total weight will be 7KG.
Stay in touch and I'll see if I can do better, I'm trying a few freight companys.

I could always cut it in half......

No way just kidding.

That price is for the shipping only to the USA. It is going to cost to much to freight the Cheyenne. He has had prices from $500.00 to $1000.00 Audollars for the Cheyenne. It's the freight costs that is the problem. It makes the helicopter expensive.

Come for a holiday and pick it up.

Just kidding.

Hi ,

I don't know if you guys allready found a Cheyenne , but a bubby of mine has 2 of them and he wants to sell them .
One is build , and modified with diferrend parts including retracts .
One is original in the box .
So if you're still looking for one , let me know and I'll see what more info I can get.

The one build is with 4 blade rotorhead and 4 blade tail and retracts.
The one in the box is "new" complete frame and bodywork.

I read through the info that Jbeech posted, thank you for all of that, I am very intrigued by the developements of early helicopters. I really like the Cheyenne (I may just have to build one if these fuses become available ) I am just wondering about the other heli those articles talked about, the lockheed model 286. it looks pretty sweet and I am facinated by the gyro stabilizer they were testing. According to those articles and other sources, the model 286 had superior stability as well as manueverablity, I wonder if their stabilizer gyro would work on a model four bladed head (of course it would probably be easier to just build a basic 4 blade head and use a V-stabi or helitronics mixer) anyway I thnk the model 286 would make a killer model because the full size was doing loops and rolls back in the 60s(?) and it has a sleek look with retractable skids, not to mention that to be truly scale, the Cheyenne needs to have a tail mounted propeller for thrust anyway. (that would be cool, but doesn't seem very practical)
anyway thats my ramble for the day, thanks jbeech for posting that cool info

flippin and dippin, flying tail to the ground, I fly my heli's like a rabid greyhound!!!

cheyenne scratch build

Has anybody decided to scratch build a cheyenne? I came in late on this one! I have a Trex and was thinking about scratch building a light balsa fuse for it with the hope a making a mold later.

I had a Lockheed 286 model complete with retracts but let a friend talk me out of it. The sad thing is he never built it and I'm sort of out of touch with him (he's a full scale heli A&P working for some black program in South America). We sporadically get in touch and the day will come I'll either guilt him into building it, or I'll get it back (I think). My main desire to get one now is to see about getting a fuselage made up which I can offer to my Tiger 50 and Pantera 50 owners (ditto for the Cheyenne).

Kindest regards,

lockheed 286 is a hyme's

It is a Heim L286 from the late '80's. It did not have retractable skids like the Kavan.
