Vacuum moulding plastic parts

Steve
The way to do vacuum moulding is.......find a local company that makes bubble packaging and the like and go and talk to them , they will help you with materials to make copy moulds, how and where to put the vent holes and also if you talk nice to them they will produce a small batch run for you, they will also advise and supply suitable materials for making the parts in clear or coloured.
Which continent are you located on at the moment?

I think he is trying to say ..... "step away from the fuse guys or I will open fire " and that is o.k. I understand the I want to do this project myself perfectly.Been there done that ,,,and still doing it.
B--U--T ,,,,,I think your signature is also telling you and us something

and that yr might turn into 2 or 3 ...where as if one guy did the fuse and another did the plastic parts and another did the wood parts ... it could be done in say 1 yr. and you would be starting to work on a nice ,clean new ,strong fuse for your next project .Notice I have not volunteered to help as I have the same signature ,,,,well in my head anyways.
Best of luck which ever way you go and I am sure we all understand and can wait.I personally don't have time in the next two yrs to build it any how...to back logged with promised builds for other manufactures anyhow.

Hi everyone,
Firstly a huge thankyou to everyone who is offering their services here. It seems like I've been really lucky and gotton hold of something quite precious here. I'm sure you'll all understand if I'm a bit reluctant to post it off into the ether, no matter how skilled and honourable the person at the other end is. I've got some friends locally who are seriously into scale stuff and will be talking with them about getting a mould done. In view of the obvious interest, it will definatly be happening and I'll keep you all informed here. Any Fuzzes supplied will be on a "cost only" basis. Thanks again to everyone.

In the meantime, I've stuck a few more pics in the gallery and you may like to check out this:

ps Sorry my gallery is a bit unorganized. I havn't sussed all the funny scripting stuff. Not very user friendly.

I think we all can understand that thought ,,and if you have some scalers local to help that will be just as good.I think we all are overloaded with projects at the present anyhow.
The new pix are great ,,I didn't realize it had retract mains. shows how well I have researched it .Also glad to se it has the formers mapped out on the plans ,,,are they true size or just for locating purpose ?? As the wood work will be another problem.

I have been in contact with a fellow in Germany that might be able to shed some light on the mechanics for the Cheyenne. If I understood his last e-mail correctly there is a possibility that he has access to to some fuselage components also.

This is Kewl!

I have always liked this heli. It was the precursor to the AH64 Apache. And I have wanted one of these fuses for a long time.

I also have in my possession..........copies of the acutal flight manual for the Cheyenne. My former Boss was a young engineer on that aircraft and he had possibly the only existing manual on it.

He let me make copies of what I wanted. Mainly stuff for scaling one out if I ever built one.

By the way........the tail wheel was retractable too!

I'll make anything available that I can. The biggest downside to ordering stuff from Germany is the shipping cost involved. Maybe if there was enough interest we could pool an order and split the shipping among the participating members. Just a thought.

US of A. I'm not planning on going anywhere. What's on your mind?

As far as molding plastic parts, I know at least two people that have vacuum forming equipment - one makes scale fuselages and has to make the clear windows to go with them (Unique Aircraft) - the other has been producing copies of GMP Cricket canopies as well as model car bodies using factory original moldings as masters. If Darrel (Unique) wasn't so busy I'd ask him for help on this project but he's over three years behind in copying my Schluter BK117 fuse! Everyone has too many projects and no time

Larry:

I'm trying to build up my heli museum and move from MD to GA, both at the same time Then the south house needs lots of work to make room for the ever-growing fleet. My contribution can be some materials and patterns as well as maybe SX-81 drawings, etc. I have a strong interest in this project and would like to help in some manner.

tean:

We're at your mercy! Do whatever you think is right.

Later,
Steve

For anyone who's interested there is a book, one of the WarbirdTech series, by Tony Landis and Dennis Jenkins on the Cheyenne. It has a full history and lots of (mainly B&W) photos.
The ISBN number is 1-58007-027-2. I got mine from Amazon.

I'll be sure and post anything that I run across here. I think the possibility of turning up Cheyenne components in Europe will be far greater than it is here. I guess it is worth a try. If I do turn anything up interesting is anybody up for pooling funds together for the shipping costs? I got a quote today for shipping on a heli from Germany from DHL for 325 Euros. As a side note, I've been able to turn up some almost unobtanium parts for my Kavan Jet Rangers there.

LOL
Randal ,I am sure it is nothing you did ,,people just busy trying to getting funds together. I think smaller parts don't cost that much to ship from Germany ,,I have bought two gyros from ACT Europe and it only run about 7-10 dollars shipping.
Personally I don't want the old schulter mechanics ,,although they flew great ,, I just want the fuse.
Although I would spring for a retract setup for it though.

Good thought though pooling together on parts and stuff.
Good luck on your search and let us know what you find ,,believe me you ,,you have not killed this thread by a long shot.
Larry
p. s. Steve I seemed to have egnored your post ,,but was doing my reading /post at work and was really to busy to be doing that and missed that part and just now today caught it .
Moving alone is bad enough without having to move the birds and finding parts . Anything will help at this point as we have not much to work with.

You're right about the shipping on the small parts Larry. I think anything under a couple of pounds isn't too bad. The bigger boxes seem quite a bit more expensive. A fuselage by itself wouldn't weigh much at all but the size would be a factor. The expense of shipping wouldn't really be a problem if we could turn up a complete Cheyenne fuselage to use to make a new plug. I'll throw out a hint for the retracts and see where that goes.

Tean Can you check on getting me a copy of the plans? Check with a blueprinting business near you and see how much it would cost and let me know . any body else that may want one chime in here. If we get more then the cost of the print and the cost of shipping could be less. I would be glad to distribute the ones that come to the US and save the extra cost of shipping across the ocean. Please let me know Tom
