Can I learn to fly heli with this model?

Dear all,

I bougth a rotofly helimax but I sold this after read a lot of bad comments about the tail motor and low efficiency of the same. Now I am thinking about purchase a Venon Nigth Ranger 3D, the only reazon I am doubt is because I am not sure if I can start flying helis with this amazing model.
What is your recomendation to start flying helis, and I am talking about micro helis electrics. Because my idea is to fly anywere. By other side I want to buy a RTF model.

You probably can learn on it, but it is really too hot to use as a trainer. Some people, at Venom's suggestion, have been moving the pushrods on the servos in one hole (on all three). They have reported that it is easier to hover this way.

I'll try to play catch up on this thread.

To answer the question can this be used as a trainer? The reality is, many people are using it as a trainer, though I would highly recommend practicing on a simulator at the very least, and if $$$ allows, start on one of the many fine fixed pitch helicopters that are on the market. Should you choose to learn on it, I would recommend moving the servo pushrod links in one hole to make the ship less responsive.

On the option lipo mentioned in the manual, we anticipated having our lipos out soon after releasing the VNR3D. Our lipos should be here in a couple of weeks. A 3 Cell 1200 pack provides great power and duration, but if you want a hot rod, we are coming out with a 3S 800mah 20C pack.

A few people have reported screws coming loose. It is highly important that you check for loose screws after every flight. This is a highly technical product, and like any technical product, it requires maintenence.

I have been waiting more then a month for parts for the nightranger 3d.. You guys put out a product but have no product support.. To Make matter's worse is it was a manufacture defect that broke the heli the first time it was flown.. When will parts be avaliable

twitchy tail ven 3d

i have a blade cp and the night ranger 3d and the tail on the 3d is rilly twitchy it says in place but it's like it tuns on then off not a stedy rpm is this normail for this heli ? or has anyone alse had the same issue has anyone upgraded to the gws tail direct drive. i have that on the blade cp and it works good. was thinking of trying that on the ven 3d to see if it helps it that twitching is normail if it isnt then ill be going back to hody shop only 3 days old and i did try to ajust it but it didnt make any dif

Unlock #8 dip switch and adjust the pzt or the other knob just a little, see if it helps.

Undead,

I agree with Boing, unlock DIP swicth #8 and tweak only the PZT towards "+" until the tail stops twitching. It should not take much. This is actually reducing the head RPM-it will calm down the machine's response a little also.

Mine will twitch slightly during the first minute after a charge, then it settles in nicely.

I think a change to the GWS direct tail would be downgrade from a properly wokring VNR3D stock tail motor, not an upgrade (and I like GWS products).

Hello fellow heliman:
I just recently purchased the Night Ranger 3D and it seems to be a very nice heli with many quality features. It is very sensitive to control imputs and one great features is no more revo mixing! I found this to be amazing as there was no setting for head to tail mixing and from the first flight it almost has a heading hold feeling to it. I have been flying with the stock battery so far and have achieved good flight times. The main blade RPM's do however tend to lose quite a bit of speed with aggresive stick movement during roll maneuvers. Keep in mind, that this is with the stock battery. A lighter battery with more voltage such as LiPos would probably solve this. Thanks.

your doing rolls already? how high were you flying? can you do loops as well? How long have you been flying? Your doing awesome.. Do you reverse the pitch all the way in a roll? Or just whatever feels right at the time?

VNR3D

I will be a first time flyer in about a week. I am thinking of buying a VNR3D by suggestion from the local hobby shop and wanna know some suggestions from all of you, also I would like some pointers for my first flight. Thank you

It is a very good machine, but extremely quick. People are learning on it, but it is an advanced helicopter. It is lightning quick on collective and cyclic-be very careful.

In addition to the usual things one picks up as spare parts (blades, shafts, etc.) pick up spare Flybar control trays, Seesaws, and linkages.

Locktite the setscrew in the rotor head, the collar above the frame, and the one in the aluminum plate on the main gear. I have now also locktited the knurled collar under the head.

Make sure that you get training gear also.

If you have access to a simulator, use it.

Well I have my new Venom and it is pretty nice looking. I have an experianced pilot flying it for me and we are having some problems.

The head speed it just so fast its actually too fast. Prolem is when you adjust to slow it down thru the radio does nothing. No matter how low you set the knob to slow the head speed it does not change anything. Not sure if it is radio issue or the speedo isn't working correctly.

My pilot also set another Venom up for my friend and his has a nice head speed. His radio would slow the head speed down and work correctly.

You must first unlock DIP switch #8 on the back of the radio. The PZT and PLT knobs will do nothing until you do this. This is not mentioned in the instructions.

PLT is "Pitch Limit Trim"-Total collective pitch range.

PZT is "Pitch Zero Trim"-This is your mixing control for where the pitch come in. This controls RPM at hover by changing the collect-not by changing the throttle trim.

There is no movement of collective until you hit about 50% throttle stick (when in "Normal" mode). The by adjusting the PZT, you will adjust the starting point of the pitch at half stick. Mine is just a hair positive at half throttle stick.

I set the PLT, to where the machine does not bog when you punch it, then the PZT, to get the RPM right at lift off.

Slowing the RPM down a bit with the PZT will make it easier to hover, less sensitive to collective at lift off into hover, and will also cure tail hunting, should that be an issue.

These machines fly very, very well, but are extremely sensitive to control inputs (which I like). You must be alert an "on" the helicopter all the time.

I have just installed the CF blades and Brushless motor. I am waiting for the rain to stop so that I can test fly. (I did test fly the CF blades with the old motor, and they made the VNR3D quicker on cyclic, but also more proportional to control inputs. The original, stock main motor became weak after 37 flights.

just to let everone know the venom 3d is just an walkera relabled...:D

The remote is the same as the walkera and if u look at some parts they are lable #22.... the same as the dragonfly#22

why can't my dragonfly fly out of the box like the venom3d......

I have read from several posters on several forums that it is a re-labled Walkera, but the electronics in the Venom seem to work very well. I don't own any Walkera machines but, from what I read on the forums, the radios and the servos on the Walkeras do not seem to be very consistant. I have not found a 22E locally to either purchase or examine, so I cannot make the comparison. I will not buy one from E-Bay, as there does not appear to be any factory/product support for Walkera. Venom is all over the forums offering help and support.

I have 46 flights on the VNR3D and the radio and helicopter are very solid, so far. It is a very good handling, very good flying machine.

compairing blade cp and venom

i had a blade cp and it was not a stable heli. it would hover fairly nice but then it was all over the place. i had the symetrical blades and lipo battery. it was not enjoyable tom fly. i understand they are fast reacting helis but it should not start being hard to control. i have flown many gas helis and an hirobo xrb electric. is the venom more stable and consistant than the blade cp? thanks.
