I am looking for a new field box. There was a company making a black, alum box with a 1/2 gal fuel bottle. It held a gel cell, power panel and the starter hung on it. Anyone know where I can get one ? Or is the another box out there simular ?

T&T has a new case out there. Heliproz has it for $99.

I however prefer my home made case.

Ddavidson:
The box that you are looking for was made by a company called Satellite Systems. If my memory serves me right they were located on Long Island NY. I was at a fun fly last summer, I own one of these boxes, and some guy came up to me who owned one also and told me that the manufacture of the box had passed away.

Ddavison,
Call your buddy, Dave Carter, at Rave's. He has a really cool flight box in stock now. I almost bought it when I was down there visiting last month. I think Dave Harkey and Cliff Hiatt use the one I'm talking about. It is compact durable andnot that expensive.

TT Box

I am really enjoying my TT box from Heliproz! http://www2.mailordercentral.com/heliproz/default.asp Being that I was just getting back into the hobby, it was perfect It has been getting a lot of coments at the field too. Now, I saw one at the local hobby shop that only came with the tank, nothing else. I think he parted everything else out to make a buck or two more off of this great deal. Just my opinion. He wanted $34 for the case and fuel cell. Anyway, you can't beat the price, ease of use, and convenience of this great kit!

My Two Cents,

My toolbox

Here is the toolbox I use, very convenient since I have a camper shell pickup to carry it in but as indicated in the web page it does break down into 3 sections that could be transported in the trunk of a car and can be broken down if you only want to take the fuel and start etc farther out on the field or ???

I believe I posted this in another subject, if so sorry for the repeat.

The original box is now about $70.00 at Sam's or Home Depot.

Here is the webpage if you are interested...

Dave,

Ltorib is correct. The Satellite Systems box was out of production for a while, then I saw them again, a few years ago, being offered by one of the jet companies; BVM (Bob Violett Models), I think.

I had one from Satellite Systems, and it is without doubt the most compact "flight box" you will find anywhere. Two problems caused me to get rid of mine:

1. It is quite top-heavy, and will tip over in a heartbeat in your vehicle unless you brace it with something. And, being fabricated from heavy-gauge aluminum, it is no fetherweight. The Nalgene bottle that served as a fuel container held only a half-gallon.

2. You must use the Sonic-Tronics MK II electric pump. There is a nice little receptacle for it, which puts it completely out of the way. The pump is hard-wired into the power panel on top of the box. A very neat, clean installation. Too bad the pump starts leaking after less than a year. I went through three of them before saying to hell with it. And when the tech at Sonic-Tronics began practicing his weisenheimer routine when I called to complain, I said to hell with that company.

But the concept of this box was/is great. My dad made a "clone" of sorts for me, out of scrap plywood he had lying around. There is a picture of it (thanks to Marc) on an earlier thread here on this topic. My new box is a bit larger, somewhat lighter, and has no power panel or tool drawer. But I've now got a full gallon container, the Horizon Pacific Rim el cheapo pump nestles nicely on the side of the center piece, the cute little Horizon ni-starter sits alongside the starter, and I'm a happy camper...

BTW, Satelitte Systems sold that box for $70, with the Nalgene bottle. The jet vendor was asking $100, without the bottle. Go figure.

2 good ideas and 1 request

I usually advise my students to stay away from the shiny stuff and avoid buying anything until we spend some time looking around at the field to get some ideas brewing and combine them with their own tastes and the most current offerings and here is what 2 of them came up with.
1. A blue and red mostly plastic very attractive box made be byron i believe its called a pit pal combined with one of those new Cermark power panels with traditional pwr panel functions combined with an esv and charger for rx/tx/glow igniter all digital and 2-yr elec pump and full sized starter and 7mag gel cell and 1- gal of fuel. Very neat and effiencent. I gave him one of my old plastic academy gun cases for his radio and hes set!
2. This guy already had a starter w/attached battery and opted after the 3rd session to get the academy deluxe fishing bx w/2-drawers and 2-drawer sized and stlyed clear containers/very similar to my own but slightly taller/better handle and a flip storage built into the lid. He fashioned 2 blocks of foam to house the new 9c radio in the upper left deck and the starter battery rests perfectly on the rt and starter adapter/oil/ca/locticte etc fit alongside in a separated area/tools in the drawers and small parts and supplies in the containers/he runs an onboard monitor/this one still requires a hnd pump set up for fuel but very net nonetheless
3. I also bought a new cermark.com pwr panel plus and found the perfect box for it on the back of a hobbico quick field charger. Anyone know where i might find 1 loose/new/or a broken charger that i can scavange the box from!? I want the flexability of throwing my panel in my flight box and velcroing or hanging on the side when in use. We are all pretty into the field boxes and i like the standley deal mentioned earlier, but i believe that the cermark power panel would improve the idea somewhat.
