Bergen R/C Helicopters > What Spark Plug?

The spark plug in my G260 wasn't firing much at all, so I'm replacing it. None of the stores around here have the right size in stock. So, I was looking around on-line for either the Champion RZ7C that is used by Zenoah, or its NGK equivalent.

Does anyone here have a preference? The plugs I have found are:

Champion RZ7C
NGK CR#HSA (# is the plug temp., from 4/hot to 8/cool)
NGK CMR#H (compact version)
NGK CR#HIX (high-performance iridium plug)

Thanks...

We keep the champion plugs in stock here, just for this reason. They can be difficult to find at the local stores.

Hi Paul, not sure if you have a preference but I went to the NGK CMR7H in the Observers and they run great. Don't go with the Iridium plugs I already tried that and they all seam to be too long and just don't fit right. I did have to order the plug off the Internet though no one local carried them. good luck.

Okay, I spoke with Chris Bergen on the phone this morning about spark plugs. I told him about a handy little site I found that sells the plugs we need, cheap:

http://www.sparkplugs.com/

They carry the Champion RZ7C for $4.20 and the NGK CRM7H for $3.50. I bought three NGK plugs for $10.50 + S/H. They also carry different heat ratings (change the 7 to a lower number for a hotter plug or a higher number for a cooler plug) which may be useful to those of us who live in cold snowy areas.

I see that you guys have already tried Iridum plugs with no luck. But has anyone tried this new plug?

I'd tend to shy away from the specialty plugs. The majority of engines are not made to use them. Your iridium and platinum plugs work best in high performance engines. Use the standard NGK plugs and adjust heat range only once you've tuned the engine properly and you'll find yourself much better off.

check your local napa store.. if they dont have em they can usually get them the next day(ngk) at a reasonable price.. i think i paid about$5 each.. better than the lhs at $10 each

crashes sponsored by VISA, MASTERCARD, and AMEX.. just like your heli.. never leave home without it

I have not been back for awhile. Still can't get the heli started and its been sitting on the shelf for a year as a result. Is the referenced plug part of that problem?

If you're having that much trouble getting the engine started, you may have an air leak around the phenolic block. That can cause you all kinds of grief when starting and running the engine.

You are a little over two hours from the Bergen factory. Why don't you give Chris a call and see if you can run out there some time. He and the rest of the Bergen family will have your Intrepid Gasser purring in no time.
