Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Blade Roots vs Grips

The woodies I got with my Tiger have blade roots with bosses or screw guides proud of the root. This doesn't allow the blades to swing and be stored in a blade holder supported by the boom. Any fix for this other than buying different blades. Kind of a pain removing the blades all the time.

I'm sure all you pros are flying carbons though and don't have this problem.....

If you install the 1mm blade spacers top and bottom, you should have enough clearance.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

Thanks Flybarless. I'll have to check out these spacers. My heli is second hand and I didn't see any in the extra goodies I got. I'll try and find some. Never thought of spacers.

Cheers, Shayne

yeah, no spacers with my second hand machine either...

I'm running TT600 woods now and tighten the grips down till the blades will fold if you hold the heli sideways and give it a lil jolt. I don't like them too loose, otherwise I figure I'll risk either a boom strike or trouble with an auto....

Folks, the spacers are part of the model for a reason. Believe me, we (like any manufacturer) would just leave them out we could because it would be cheaper for us. But without them you are stressing the grips in ways they're not intended to be stressed!

John, what's the part number for the grip spacers?

I'd like the part number too. Granted, I haven't gone through the manual entirely yet. I just threw the blades on to see how things looked and then make the little sputtering noises like it had an engine.....I was excited okay. Just kidding. It was just something I noticed and thought I'd ask about. Still waiting on parts to start the build-up.

Thanks, Shayne

Probably any standard 1mm blade spacers will work.

I CA'd mine to the blades. Pain in the neck trying to line it all up.

I just went through the entire manual and didn't find a part number for the grip spacer, I'm sure John will post it once he reads this thread.

For the record, grip spacers from other blades will also work if you have anything laying around and every blade set that I've purchased over the last 2 years have all had some type of spacer.

CA-ing the spacers in is a good idea. I'm gonna have to try that.

If you should by any chance buy Mavrikk 600mm blades you will get spacers with them.

The only problem with CA'ing the spacers to the blades is that I am not sure if you get a new set of spacers with the new woodie blades. Would make tranferring the spacers to a new set of bladed unlikely.

I know I needed to use the spacers with the TT blades and the Mavrikk Pro blades mostly because most major blade roots are 12mm and the Tiger's blade grips are 14mm. I personally have no issues with the size because sooner or later I may come across a blade with a 14mm blade root. The Raptor has a 12mm blade grip and JR machines are 14mm. I don't know what the EVO has.

I have a spare set of Mavrikk spacers. If someone needs them and sends me a SASE I will give them to you.

Just don't use a lot of CA. Just enough to hold them from sliding. You can get them off. I have already done so.

Okay, being new to the nitro scene I'm wondering exactly what these blade spacers are? My TRex blades have all come with brass inserts that go into the bolt hole in the root of the blade. I don't think they act as spacers though, just a bushing. And if they sat proud of the bolt hole you wouldn't be able to tighten up the grip on the blade.

Are the blade spacers everyone is talking about here like a washer? Just wider to cover the root area? Can someone post a picture or link to what they are referring to? In the meantime I'll search some of the vendor sites.

Thanks everyone!

Herc,

They are about an inch in diameter with the 4 or 5mm bolt hole in the center, you put one above and below the blade then insert everything into the blade grip. The thickness of the blade is a tad bit thinner than the opening in the blade grip and the spacers even out the thickness so you aren't squeezing or pinching down on the blades putting stress on the blade grips. The washers sometimes come in a hard black plastic or metal depending on the blade manufacturer.

Hope this helps,

Clyde

Thanks Clyde.

I searched a couple of vendor sites but didn't find anything. Now that I have a better idea of what I'm looking for I should be able to find them.

i've never had blade spacers come with any of the blades i've bought (AeroTek, V-Blades, TT) and I never had any with my Hawk Sport either...so, I'll have to get some from somewhere =\

here ya go!

http://rchelisplus.com/cart/cart.ph...ng=blade+spacer

you'd want the ones with the 4mm ID since the blade grip bolt is a M4x30 shoulder bolt

I've got a bunch of extras. Anyone who needs them PM me and I'll send them out no charge. I'll be away from the computer for most of the day.
