You are right. The hardware sent out is wrong for this application. Here's the answer I got back when I contacted the AlignUSA rep.

Dear customer:
We are out of thosed screw. the fast way that you can get those screw from any hobby store (Black hex 2x10mm and trim it to 2 x9mm) for new screw shipout that we have to wait until we get new batch from align/taiwan!

Regards

Andy

The ones I got look like regular 2x9mm hex head screws... nothing special.... With my replacements on, the grips are solid as a rock.... no sideplay that I can get out of them at all... My slightly older tail grips... the all silver ones have a lot of slop.. the new one I just fixed is perfect.... for me at least.... They just replaced the aluminum screws with steel it looks like....

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

If you are using the older Align tail grip, just bite the bullet and order the Microheli replacement hub. The replacement hub is STEEL, and the screws are #11 SHC screws. I had problems shattering the hubs on the Align units, switched to the Microheli units (old style). These were a little stronger, but still broke after about 3 flights. Switched to the steel hubs, and the problem is GONE!

I know that paying for a fix rubs many people the wrong way, but the replacement hub is VERY CHEAP, and WILL prevent the problem from EVER occuring again ..... isn't this worth a few bucks !?

If I get a HS1127 how do I know if it has the new screws. Will it have black screws if it’s a new one – or is Align still shipping them with the old silver screws and it’s up to the user to request the good screws?

I'm pretty sure most places are now shipping the new screws with the tail unit. I know my LHS gives them out when he sells the 1127 now..... I think they are going to blow through the stock they already made and ship the replacements.... I would think the fixed unit would have a new part number....

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

Mine exploded six minutes into the first battery pack -- almost hit me in the face. The screw broke and impossible to remove from the hub. Broke the scissor grip on the new slider too. A couple of emails to Align resulted in the local distributor sending me a HS1147, even though I bought from overseas. Excellent service from Align and Taiwa/Wattsuprc!

well..

for now my align tail will sit idle... using the Duzi for time being, so no fret there.... (hasn't broken after many uses at 2900rpms...)

but i do want to use the align tail parts eventually, (nice matching blue cnc)...

i sent email for the screws yesterday...

how long has it taken folks to get their screws typically?

The answer is in two parts. Part 1 - A week to get the screws. Part 2 -They are sending the wrong screws out. Notice how the word screw keeps popping up? A $500.00+ "Superior Edition" helicopter that can't be flown safely for the want of a couple hardened shouldered fasteners. Priceless.

i'm probably better off just buying them from fasteners.com or someplace like that......................

Align recommends M2x9mm screws.... The closest I could find were 2x10 screws, and they recommend grinding them down to the right size.... The screws I was sent work great.... I am still paranoid about the blades coming off though... it kinda sucks to fly indoors now... I'm always thinking ones gonna get me in the eye......

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

The replacment screws are plenty strong, infact the stock screws are pretty much ok as long as you keep your headspeed in the sane range(2500 and below) The 3550kv motor with a 13t pinion puts the headspeed up into the 2700 to 2800k range. That kind of headspeed is not neccesary unless you can bust some hardcore 3D. Also, the T-rex gearing was originally designed for a headspeed of around 2k. Guys are flying around 2800 to 3k or even more. The gear ratio is about 5 to 1. If your rotor is spinning 3k the tailspeed is at a whopping 15k. of course the tail might fail. The new lower gearset coming out is gonna cure that by reducing the tailspeed and another benefit from it is it's going to increase the torque a bit at the main rotor.

I ran across this on the align website... They now make a replacement package that not only has the new pitch slider ball links, but also the hub and the same screws align is shipping out as replacements....
