Hmmm well Jafa now i'm curious, nothing new in that i guess!
If you are as you say an Hirobo man, and have an Avant to build you lucky boy then why can't I go wrong with a Stratus? Seriously are you saying the Stratus flys better? Liveing in the UK the repairs to Xcells allways seem expensive. Also the Stratus has had a lot of issues around the tail, and i'm not sure whether these are fully sorted yet. Also I am slightly suspicious having followed some threads as to whether it is more prone to vibration because if it is then that can give rise to lots of issues not least I would imagine that the ally frames may fracture.
I am not knocking the model because all being well if it out flys the extreme which is the best heli I have flown so far then indeed it must be awsome, but surely the Avant looks as though it should be capable of all that as well. Do you think there is a difference in repair cost likely stratus to Avant?
with regards your comments on the Synergy what didn't float your boat about it? I would prefer it was as light as the other two but I think as with engines you only get out what you put in, for the synergy to be as bullet proof as it looks to be weight is a likely penalty, and I think it is meant to be lighter than the Raptor 90SE which the Szabos do well with.
I got a price today for the stratus conversion and will try this if the extreme gets all bent out of shape again

I received my RC HELI magazine today and it has a small write up on the Avant full heli kit to be in production sometime soon ????

Heli's tested so far:

90 size Raptor, good but feels heavy in the air. Not my heli, though I did beat it up in flight test!

90 size EVO mine before the conversion, flew pretty good, definitely better than the raptor, but the Avant kit took it to another level.

90 Fury Min Air. Flew very good, but the Avant just a little better. The fury I tried belonged to a min air rep and we do have very similar taste in heli set up and flight feel. I gotta say the Avant just seems to do everything a little better with more authority.

Don't anybody get me wrong, these are all very fine helicopter's. They all fly very good. It's just the Avant has a little more aggressiveness about it. Even in it's look. Just feels and looks pissed off in the air. I really have enjoyed my time on the Avant more than any heli yet!

Hi Tom Thumb, was the Raptor standard or SE version?
If you fly with a min air rep do you know where the STRATUS fits into the equation?
Certainly I haven't read anybody say anything negative about the Avant which is a little unusual in itself and puts it at the top of the tree with one or two other helis.
Although All the better helis are capable of more than most pilots are and certainly myself, I have found in other fields that the better your equipment performs the easier it is to achieve more, as such the Avant along with the synergy are top of my wish list.

Owning them both fury and Avant I can tell you that the performance is different, both super but different feeling. Avant is more responsive in cyclic definitely. In climb up power, to me or to my set up about the same, but different also, while the Avant has more punch the climb up of the Fury is like more constant and looks as though it goes to infinite.

Where Avant is much, much and much better than Fury is in tail design which to me it alone would be enough even if it was a worse heli. Fury line cannot withstand abuse at all. And it also is much, much better in overall design to withstand abuse. You can fly an Avant almost for ever without changing anything but the one way.

The best I have ever flied is what I am flying currently: Avant with Tempest head and 70 blades, OS91 and 8.08 ratio with MP. I believe Carbon Extreme is developing a head similar to the Tempest head.

nice to have both the fury and an Avant to fly.
when you say the Avant has a better tail do you mean it is more powerfull?, or is it because of all the issues that the ma models appear to have failures?
Do all auto units wear out? or is this a weakness on the Avant?
Also i'm not sure what you are saying when compareing the collective responces of the two helis, can you ellaborate for me please?

I just feel that the Stratos is a solid machine, the head design is very agile and proven, the new open tail box is bullet proof, the new tank location is excellent for maintaining c/g during the flight, the new frame layout with higher engine rocks. The CCPM interaction issue is sorted (I think there were upgrade parts for previous models to fix this anyway?). The only downside is cost and repair bills - but you do get what you pay for... The ones I've seen here in Oz take everything that is thrown at them, no vices as yet.

The Avant appears to be a little quicker in cyclics and has little to no maintenance, Hirobo part prices are ok, most of the Carbon Extreme prices are ok too. For me, running an Avant makes sense re parts and knowledge (I have 4 other Hirobo machines).

Let me just say that everything expressed here is my own experience based on my current set up and my flight stile. Other person can have a drastic opposite opinion based on the two things before.

Having said this and again to myself:

Fury tail is mechanically not well designed. By this I mean that it has numerous mechanical issues that most of the times comes from bad maintenance or building but they exists and they do not in any Hirobo machine. Tail of Hirobo machines are very hard to break, very hard to build wrong and very hard to fail. One can hardly build the tail badly in a Hirobo machine.

By the auto unit I only mean the one way bearing. Just this bearing. There is a possible mod to it but I rather change it when it breaks. It is very easy to change. Not important to myself at least. This is a Hirobo unit (and Avant) but I think the auto unit is better in the Fury. Again not very important.

The collective: you have to try it to understand. But in few words one is as good as the other one.

I post this for someone who asked me how to put the Tempest head into the Avant (I do not now how to send a private message and save it...)

You have three possible ways to do it: 1. You just direct replace the Avant mast by a Fury mast. It is longer but the Fury head is also shorter, the jesus bolt above is not an issue, it is an issue though with the one below as the Avant has two 3mm screws, it needs now a 3mm jesus bolt through it. This solution only works with the Xspec unit and not with the EX unit. This is not the way I prefer and…

Which magazine? I plan a new 90 machine, the synergy, evo 90 and Avant are at the top of the list. no firm desisions been taken because as of yet none of them are available to me or the price known.
I do know I dont want to get an Avant by buying a new freya AND conversion which seems wastfull to me.
I don't understand why it is so difficult to get some basic information like this, so better informed decisions can be made.

Hi PPLON thanks for the thoughts about the EVO 90 I do love my 50 and as you say the 90 is very well thought of.
At the moment I think it is a choice between the synergy and the evo but neither are available here yet and the prices are unknown. I am tempted by the evo partly because if it was crashed I could then convert to the Avant as an option

My new Avant kit arrived per kind hand from Hawaii today.
Now the big dilema. When do I decommision the perfectly good, and flying really well Evo in order to build the Avant. Bugga.
Rob Peter to pay Paul sort of situation. Ahhhhhh......
Think I will fly the pants off it tommorow, and if it survives the days thrashing, then I rebuild to Avant. If on the other hand it spears in, well I rebuild anyway, to Avant......mmmmm problem solved.

Just wondering what your comparison is between the Avant with the XSpec Avant FX rotor head and the Avant with the Tempest head. Which are the differences with flying them? Why do you like it better?
