I have my curves close enough that I have to double check to see if my governer is engaged....except it overspeeds on rapid descents.

govs. are just another thing to fail

Let's do away with gyros too....

This place kills me.....sure you don't need a governor to fly, I flew without one for 16 years....also flew with mech. gyros until a couple of years ago. I guess we should all take power steering and power assisted brakes off of the our cars too.....because we don't "really" need the power assist.

I think you should learn curves also.....in case the governer quits or throws a magnet......but using reasoning like stated above is pretty rearward thinking. I guess we should all go back to analog TX's too.....Don't need no failing computer radios you know.....

A Simple Question Was Asked....

Do I really need a governor????
The answer was no......
This does not mean that they do not work, or that they cannot make a smoother running heli for some people. or that we should back up and use the "old time" equipment......
There is nothing wrong with using a governor, but I think that in the learning stages of flight, it is a good thing to also learn the set up of the heli, and that includes pitch and throttle curves....
When you are into to full on hard 3D, I agree that every advantage is needed.....
But do you NEED one..... ?????

Just MHO.......

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

I'm definitely lazy about throttle/pitch curve setups. If they fail no harm is done with any reasonable backup curve.

guys govs. are not needed so they fail you RPM goes up down up down and it would be hard to get it on the ground in one piece then lets say your gyro fails the tail wags or spins around as long as your not on your side you can get it on the ground

Thanks for the input guys! I wasn't trying to stir up the governor debate, but particularly get a feel for how many use them with the Hyper 50, because of the power this thing can crank out.

I plan on setting up pitch curves to the best of my abilities and will probably add one down the road.

must have been a downdraft

I drive a horse and buggy to work.

Actually me for one definately doesn't need a gov but hey, guess what.... I installed a Throttle Jockey last night because I wanted all the crap the big boys use. Apparently the big boys all use all the toys. And boy are their machines expensive to crash.

Seriously, if governors work, why not use them if you like. From what I've seen on here and on the field, most use gyros (no kidding) and governors.

Do we need a governor. I would say no. Do we want one? That's a personal choice and depends on the type of flying you do.

I have two heli's one setup with the Gv-1, having the govener has made life a lot simpler as far as setting up my curves. I just get the trottle curves close enough in-case the gov quits.

As a beginner I left the other heli without a gov to learn how to setup good curves, but I will be adding a gov to it very soon. It's nice to have it even thou you may not need it.

I have so much fun fiddling I figured I'd install it. You can disable it at the flick of a switch.

Program in the gear ratio and set the head speed you want. That is what you get. On my 9303 I have the AUX 4 output on the receiver programmed through the 3-way AUX 2 switch. 0= off (1000), 1= 1750, 2= 1850. Any flight mode I'm in I can have either head speed or turn it off completely. Simple and dependable.

DGSHAFFER, What a great piece of info, tnx. I've been building up a Rap 50 and thinking about a GV-1. Already have the 9303, so I wrote this down and filled it away.
