Gbrandt1... I do like the way you are thinking !!
If people love thier pets so much why then do they insist upon putting them and in turn others at the field at great risk ?? "Love 'em and leave 'em" (at home).

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.... Dennis

Ref Dog at field

Ok......lets think about the dog for a minute. Do you think the dog really cares for the moving, noisy machines? Tied to a cord with no means to escape the scary machines.Wonder what this does to his/her heart rate, I could only imagine the stress..Ok....I tried.

Or how about the time someone unleashed their dog, let it go running around the field and then finnally tries to grab my 90SE's skids in a 5ft hover like they where a milkbone!

Dog Story

We fly at a public forrest Preserve Model Airplane Flying Field. Our Club RSM is the AMA Chartered club there.

One Sunday a dog walker on the far side of the runway (not supposed to be there to begin with, signs all over the place), lets her dog go and ENCOURAGES it to chase a trainer that has just landed, piloted by a youngster who just completed his first solo.

I scream, and run for the shed, get the bullhorn, and tell her to get her dog and leave the field, she just claps at the dog , expecting it to come to her!!!

I announce that we are calling the police, she and her dog are in danger, and she is breaking the law.

When she finally comes around tothe back side of the fence after WE corraled the dog, she cusses US out for yelling at her. How dare we yell at her!!!

We held the dog until the cops came, the Cop issued 2 tickets. He told the woman, who kept telling the officer we yelled at her, that she did not deserve to own the dog, and that putting the dog in a dangerous situation proved it.

She became boisterous and loud and the cop threatend to arrest her, not understanding she was not supposed to be there in the first place, let alone encouraging her dog to chase a plane. She demanded an apology from us because we yelled at her over the bullhorn, we patted the dog on the head, and told it we were sorry she was his human.

Dog owners sometimes just don't get it.

Even though this thread is 2 years old I guess since its been been brought back to life I will make a comment. I feel animals do not belong at the fiend I do not go to fly to have to be bothered by someone else's dog. I go to fly not dog sit Keep the pets at home where they belong for thier safty sake and for the other people who may not want a dog around thier planes or helis. Even some people are allergic to dogs and they have a right to be at the field to fly without having to deal with allergies due to some person who just has to bring thier dog.

I agree that the PILOT should not bring the dog to the field, BUT my wife will come to watch the flying, and bring my dog who is VERY well trained and just lays beside her, so I have to disagree with the dog not being brought to the field, but I do agree the dog should not be left alone or tied to something.

I disagree with that. What about a person who has severe allergies to dogs and cats? so in your iopinion its ok for this person to suffer and have to leave becasue of your behaved dog?? I dont think thats fair or right but thats my opinion. First off dont get me wrong I am a dog owner and have been all my life but dogs do not belong at a field period I dont care who well behaved they are. I have seen "well behaved" dogs at the field and thats why one guy ended up with multiple stiches from a dog bite from a "well behaved dog" Dont matter how well behaved they are there is always a chance a dog will bite. I am personally glad the clubs I belong to have banned all pets from the fields it is nice to go flying without having to listen to a dog barking or whining or one running loose etc. I dont even allow my dog to be with me when I fly on my private property.

No dogs or pets of any kind are allowed at out field.
1. Property owners rules fisrt off to begin with.
2. Club rules and I am for one glad they dont allow them.
3. Meds dont work good for everyone with allergies as I can tell you have no clue about how some peoples allergies can be.

"Well trained dog bites" I Have to disagree with this statement!
I hve three newfounland's which are very well trained, I have walked all three in VERY large crowds, the Christmas tree festival in Washington DC, the cherry blosom fesitval ETC, these ar crowds of over 100,000 people, I have trained dogs for diffrent activities,Pet therapy, service dogs, and water rescue dogs, so I think I have a small amount of experience with dogs, a well trained animal will not bite.
As for bringing the dogs to the field,My wife used to enjoy bringing the dogs to the field, she would sit in her chair and comb the dogs while I flew, just a nice "Family" day out.
IF we are going to ban dogs from the field, then I fell and have pressed this oint at my present club, to BAN children! The field where I belong, I'm the safety officer, we have had at least two(That I'm Aware of) incidents with children, the first one a small child, 7yr was running around in the pits, fell and damaged a plank, smashed the wing. the second was a child, was runnng around while the father was flying, and ran onto the runway, while I was on final with my helicopter, luckly I seen her and had enough time to abort the auto.
As for people with allergies, I sympothise with those who suffer with them, but I refuse to stop cutting my grass, combing and owning my dogs just for someone else.

Hey jeep your comment on suggesting they would not let in seeing eye dogs is got to be the most hilirous comment i have heard in a long time. LOL I mean what blind dude would show up at a heli field or fly a heli. I mean could you imagine "watch out blind fred's flying his heli ,run for cover"

Blind Friends

Um,

i have a blind friend who has a service dog, and he is an expert modeler. And he brings his service dog "inky" (er, his service dog brings him) to the field. BTW this dog is smarter than a lot of humans I know....it can count money.

Inky is allowed in the pits. Period. As well as anywhere else he wants to take my friend Mullen.

I was flying at the park once and some stupid dog prevented me from landing for quite some time. Needless to say I would have lost my temper had I come face to face with the owner

there was a guy in Santa Barbara flying hang gliders back in the mid eighties who's dog was just a PITA at the field when he was flying. Always chasing the other pilots when they came into land etc., etc.
Until one day the proverbial thing happened and you know the dog was never a problem again...except when you were up flying and trying to catch a thermal and there's this dam dog barking at you from out of nowhere!
The guy made a harness for the dog and the dog didn't even think twice about jumping on!
Snoopy would be jealous...
