Folks, I'm headed to a fun fly in Springfield, MO this weekend. Gonna be a three day event and I leave tomorrow so I can enjoy the maximum amount of time in the heartland. I suspect this is close to the last fun fly of the season for that neck of the woods so even if you're a Raptor guy and hate us for advertising in the Raptor forum, come out, have fun, and feel free to heap abuse on me in person


Oh yeah, I'll have a Tiger 50 with me, of course, so maybe take a few minutes to look it over in person while you're at it.

Thanks for the heads up on the weather pal, we nearly froze our tails off early Saturday in Sacramento because while Friday was warm like home, by early Saturday morning things were feeling more like Connecticut in the mornings - which kind of surprised me for some reason. Meanwhile, I've never been to MO but since Lynn is accompanying me, is there anything to "do" around there other than as she says, "I'm sure there's a mall, silly, I can stay entertained!" Naturally, as you can see, I have a economic stake in this since bankrolling the local economy is not my idea of her having a good time

Anyway, is this your "local" field? I.e are you familiar with it? Could you tell me if the sun is in your face in the morning, in the afternoons, or never because you fly facing north? Just wanting to know if it's a 7 AM field or a 10 AM field - if you catch my drift. For example both CT and CA were fields where the sun's in your eyes in the AMs and at your back in the PM. That made for nice lazy sleep late and get some breakfast before I head out there mornings.

Field

Our field is a runway north south field and pilot stations are on the west so I would say this time of year probably around 9:00- 10: the sun is up high enough where it wont be an issue. Friday registration starts around 8:00 flying around 9:00. Field rules are no flying before 9:00. However the field fills up quick last year we had 53 pilots and look for more this year.



Alan Szabo JR will be here and rumor has it Marty Kuhns as well as some of the helifreak gang. Going to be a great turn out.
As far as what to do the typical mall movies etc, but we are also home to Bass Pro HQ and we have the Wonders of Wildlife museum next to it. There is also a great Zoo. The fair grounds is hosting our annual Farm fest. Oh Wait not much farming in FLA. Branson Mo is a mere 30 miles away and so is Silver Dollar City we can get her lined up all day long.

An especially warm thank you to Shamoo for the heads up on bringing a coat - or I would have been there fat, dumb, and not so happy wearing shorts and flip flops! The previous week in CA was decent, and thinking that since it's warm in FL, it's warm everywhere, I would have been most disappointed! Frankly, Friday was a tad cool for my tastes, but Saturday warmed up nicely, and Sunday was very nice too. Shamoo (Jon) was right on about gas prices, I filled up the rent-a-car for $2.56 a gallon at the Conoco on Glenstone close to where we stayed (Lynn and I stayed in the Holiday Inn because we didn't know about the Red Roof Inn deal).

The guys from SW Missouri are a great bunch, and we were fortunate to meet folks from as far away as Tulsa, OK (hmmm, maybe we weren't so fortunate to meet Robbie from Tulsa, time will tell), and on up to South Bend, IN.

If you've never been to SW Missouri, I can tell you first hand about the beautiful rolling hills, the wonderful people, and yes, there are a few tourist things to do as well. Lynn and I took in Fantastic Caverns since I didn't have servo gears with me to complete the repair of my Tiger following Robbie's mishap (naturally, I could have pulled out another Tiger 50, but Lynn wanted to see what the area was like). Furthermore, Branson, MO is just 30 minutes away (there are shows and loads of things to do there as well) so this fun fly is highly recommended folks!

Finally, to Jon & Olina, Bob, Jeff P., Jeff R., Brandon, Jason, Alan, Kelly, Robbie, Dennis, Tom, Mickey, Dean, Joe, Matthew and Tabby, and of course Vic and Sheri as well as his crew, et al . . . a big thank you, we had a great time!
