Exactly where does the Tiger 50 differ from the Ornith 46?
Could someone supply me with a list of parts that are needed to make a Tiger 50 out of my Ornith?

Are the Tigers blade grips better quality than the ones on the Ornith?

Hi,
Essentially,

1. upgraded clutch.
2. engine mount
3. tail boom
4. tail belt
5. 600mm blades
6. Tail gear.

Apart from this:
the tiger has thrust bearings in the main rotor grips and seesaw has 2 positions for bell hiller ratio to make it adaptable for 3d flying. Also, it is said that the blade grips and seesaw has more fiber in it to make it crash resistant.

If you forego the later part, the 1st 6 items will make your ornith a 50 size machine.

Robbe has started selling upgrade kit for Ornith Part # S2502 to make it 50 size which includes CF 600mm blades as well costs around 180 Euros @ ercmarket.com. You will need to call or email Alex for them, He doesnt have them on his website.

S2502 includes:
# Front belt pulley
# Tail rotor belt pulley
# Tail rotor toothed belt
# Tail rotor hub
# Tail rotor shaft
# Motor mount
# Clutch, assembled
# Tail boom
# CFRP main rotor blades, 600 mm
# Tail boom support for silencer
# Axial bearin
Hope this helps.

No offense, but you could not be more wrong in your assessment. If you forego the thrust bearings you have a dangerous machine on your hands . . . surely you don't think we increased our costs by adding these parts for the sheer joy of it do you???? Furthermore, the increased fiber content in the blade grips is NOT for more durability in a crash. Instead its to prevent the blade grips from wallowing out from around the bearings - don't you think Rudeboy "might" be asking about this for a reason???? The proclivity of Ornith 46 blade grips having this issue is rather well know you know!

Lord have mercy on people who peruse the Internet for information because you've no way of ascertaining the qualifications of whomever answers you. In a matter as critical as this, you are fortunate indeed I happened to notice your post . . . or you might have killed someone by slinging a blade off an Ornith 46 equipped with its inferior grips (and sans thrust bearings). Sheesh, the things you can find authoritatively written - and accepted as Gospel - in places like this. Folks, helicopters are miniature models, not toys, and to not have the responsibilty to recognize that you can kill someone with one is sheer lunacy!

For a full write up of the differences between an Ornith 46 and a Tiger 50, please read the print magazine reviews on the Audacity Models website and specifically, read the June 2005 of Model Helicopter World to learn about the differences. Do you seriously take the integrity of Jon Tanner and MHW so lightly? Do you think they would have devoted 7 pages and 40-odd pictures in the article about the Tiger 50 if it was the "same" machine as an Ornith 46 (especially in light of the fact we don't advertise in MHW whilst Robbe do)? In my humble opinion, you folks in the UK are fortunate indeed to have such a high caliber magazine (and editor-in-chief as Jon Tanner). No offense, but most folks discover that short of fairly serious a crash, upgrading an Ornith 46 to a full specification Tiger 50 is simply not an economical - and much less a responsible - upgrade!

Fortunately, with the £ (Pound Sterling) being so strong, you can purchase a Tiger 50 for quite a good deal directly from us! Do the math folks, buy an Ornith 46 - plus fork over for the upgrades - or get a Tiger 50 in the first place . . . and the Tiger 50 is still a better heli because the upgrade parts from Robbe don't equal the total of the differences between the two machines.

Please read the articles because in doing so, you'll discover folks without my bias in this conversation will dispassionately point out the many, many differences between the two! While you're at it, source the original Ornith review in MHW and examine the photos (as compared to the Tiger 50). Frankly, the Tiger 50 is a vastly superior model to an Ornith 46 and being further screwed with the "upgrade" falls far short of what the Tiger 50 helicopter delivers straight from the box!

Thanks, that was most informative.

After reading the reviews, a better question would be: "What parts on both helis are actually the same..."
All parts critical to flight performance and durability seem to have been re-engineered.

I guess when the time comes for a "50", I'll be better off just getting a 50...
