Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Tiger 50 Questions

I am thinking about getting one over the winter and was wondering,
1.Will there be a V2 for the tiger coming out?

The web page keeps changing.
2.Does the new kit already have the 6mm spindle and 3D fly bar?

I think it flys well because of the head design.
3.Will they offer a Tiger head upgrade for a Raptor like the stinger does?

4.Also there aren't many posts is that because that have no issues?

Rob,
The Tiger 50 continues to be a workin progress.
As new people fly it and supply suggestions, updates and things become available.
You also receive a set of 3d paddles when you register your heli.

The 6mm spindle will be an upgrade as well as the heavy duty blade grips.

Additional upgrade parts are in the works.

As far as the "lack of posts" the Tiger 50 has a had a small amount of growing pains, like any new product, they have been small and affected only a small number of people. Primarily because John Beech, the driving force behind the Tiger 50 is so quick to respond the slightest issue. I'm sure most Tiger 50 owners are to busy flying them to come here and complain about them

Rob,

To answer your questions,

Inevitably, yes there will be a V2 or some sort of updated/upgraded model that takes into account all the current set of upgraded parts and build strategies. The Tiger is a baby in age compaired to the long-n-tooth Raptor's, Hawk's and other helicopter copies (Stinger, etc). As such, the current iteration of the Tiger kit is very complete, capable and inexpensive. John Beech is by far one of the most aggressive, friendly and cool guys to be hands-on with the progressive development of this heli.

In the last several months he's already completed or nearing completion on a hyper-50 specific muffler, 3D heavy duty blade grips & head axle/bearing system, a electric version is in the proto-type stages, CNC aluminum parts are in the works.

All accounts in mind, the stock Tiger head is very capable and doesn't really require a "head upgrade" of any sort to endure 3D thrasthing by the likes of Marcus Kim, Kyle Stacy and others. Nonetheless, people want their "bling", so I'm pretty sure John will oblige.

There aren't as many posts compaired to what? Everything else has been out for several years (Raptors, Hawks). The Tiger, Stinger and Knight are all relatively new on the scene. As of early summer, there were about 300 or so Tiger 50's out in the USA market. Only a percentage of those people are connected to a heli-specific internet forum. So, what you read about online is only a slice of the total picture of heli owners.

Also, given the number of posts, I haven't read anything outright bad or degrading about the heli. For the most part, everyone seems to be very happy with the machine and whenever someone gets upset, John takes care of them.

I decided to go with the Tiger over a Raptor since the parts count I believe is less, the linkage setup is more direct and I was very impressed with John's customer service and eagerness to improve the heli despite it being new to the market. Customer Feedback is actually listened to and in many cases, applied to improve things.

I think Thunder Tiger is riding the Raptor as long as possible. It's been out, what? over 10 years? I mean, a heli design that works, works well for a long time, but people like to see upgrades in materials, implementation, etc. It'd be like trying to justify owning a '93 Mustang over a '06 Mustang. The technology factor alone makes it pay to go with a newer design. Fortunately in the case of the new Mustang, they did a excellent job. As did Audacity on the Tiger.

As with any new product to come out I would expect it to have some bugs and I just wanted to wait them out but could end up waiting to long...Thanks for the fast and long replies. I suck at typing so all my questions and responds are short and sweet.
I agree with you on the simplicity of less moving parts and it also looks cool as hell without the canopy.
I am not into 3D and may never be but I like to do flips and rolls. But sometimes I can get into trouble and have to do a real hard bank or turn to avoid mother earth and thats the most strain I'll put on it.
Now I need to sell my Raptor50 V1 and use all the electrics and Eng. One Raptor is enough.
If you could just use the Tiger head on a raptor that would be sweet. The best of both worlds.

I don't see how the Tiger head design would be beneficial to the Raptor. Especially since the Tiger is going to receive a design change from trailing edge control to leading edge for it's main grips.

John has already had several owners convert their helis with the stock parts. The new blade grips and eventual control revision will incorporate leading edge control.

The resolve for most of the complaints about the Raptor head is to replace with with a metal variant from QuickUK, TopDragon or equivalent.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your thoughtful questions. I'm sorry I'm late with a response but I've been attending a fun fly in Sacramento and only just now returned. Naturally, since I'm away from work so many days, I'm working a bit of overtime to catch up (it's 9:40 PM as I write this) and I've not even had my dinner yet (which to see me is to recognize I won't exactly starve if I miss it) so I'm going to be shorter in my response than is usual.

In short, yes, the Tiger 50 V2 will come out some day, but meanwhile, we're applying ideas and changes as we discover them and letting folks know about them as quickly as possible (via our addendum sheet presently up to v1.7). If you eyeball the videos of the Tiger 50 in action on the Audacity Models website you'll see pretty much the same machine you'll get if you order a Tiger 50 (or buy one from a cooperative local dealer). These range from a budget-build like the one Mitch Shreeve created using Futaba S148 servos, an old CSM 360 gyro he had laying around, and an obsolete but really inexpensive OS Max 46FX-H engine, plus our 2-pc muffler through to the one Marcus Kim owns - which he equipped with S9252 servos, a GY-401 gyro, and an OS Max 50SX Hyper engine for power.

Of course, Marcus was 5th at the XFC this year so he can harness the higher specs of these components better than a duffer like myself - i.e. someone who is happy to come home after a day of flying with my heli on one piece! Personally, I'm not too much into 3D either - though I love to do the occasional flip and tumble. For this reason, my personal machine, like Marcus', is equipped with both the optional harder dampers and the 3D swashball kit (all of 10 bucks) as well as a the 3D paddles and flybar (a free upgrade once you register your Tiger 50).

Anyway, I'm from the South and as we say around her, I have a dog in this fight. Hence, I suggest you read what folks in the print magazines have to say about the Tiger 50 since they won't have my rather natural bias. While you're at it, I suggest you download the Tiger 50 manual for a look at how it's assembled as well as the parts list and exploded views - these are all free and are in PDF format so you can print them out and peruse them at your leisure.

In closing, remember, what you've read here before I jumped in is what fellows who own and fly a Tiger 50 had to say (and who better to believe) plus bear in mind, this forum on RunRyder has only existed a very short while as compared to other manufacturers because we're the new kids on the block. Finally, if you decide to get yourself a Tiger 50, let us know what you think - and if we met your expectations! Anyway, you can always contact me directly (I own the company) and I'll help you any way I can (that's what we're here for after all).

Oh, and before I forget, I notice you're in Chicago. You lucky to have a kick-ass hobby shop available. Just stop in at Al's Hobby Shop and ask Cindy to show you a Tiger 50 because she has them in stock!
