I'm off to CA to attend a fun fly in Sacramento this weekend where I'm looking forward to meeting new friends and having some fun. Next weekend it's Springfield, MO. I can tell you that after as many fun flys as I've been to this year, my ass is dragging a little . . . it's such a chore being paid to go to a fun fly almost every weekend.

Maybe we'll meet up, and if you see me, please feel free to walk up and introduce yourself because I like yakking about all kinds of helis (not just my Tiger 50). And if you're a heli-pilot who is not likely to break her, ask me for a turn at the sticks because the Tiger 50 is a delight to fly - I don't mind sharing.

John,
When you start looking for a mechanic to travel with you (not you like you ever break anything), look me up, I might be able to get out of the shop a weekend or two.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

John

I'd love to talk with you. I'm planning to be at the FF at least on Sunday. Hopefully I'll get away early enough tomorrow to get there. We'll see. Thanks. steve.

Tiger

I finally got a chance to talk with John after many years of enjoying his videos. He was just as nice in real life as he appears to be on the videos, and was kind enough to allow me to try out his heli w/o ever having seen me fly - a true act of faith. I responded by not planting the thing the first day of the FF. The Tiger is really a great flier and John has a warehouse full of parts to back it up. I never really loved my Raptor 50, mainly because the t/r power was insufficient and when I put on bigger blades, the belt slipped. The Tiger with stock t/r blades and a 401 gyro held for tail slides, backwards loops and rolls, and flips w/o a problem. The head design is similar to the Raptor and the cyclic feel is very similar. John's heli had "V" paddles, the newer heavy duty grips and spindle, and the grips flipped so it wasn't completely stock, but a stocker with the grips flipped should fly pretty much the same. The clutch and fan are somewhat beefier than the raptor, also. Thanks again John, and best of luck to you. steve.

Thanks for the kind words Steve . . . frankly, I am always a bit humbled when I get to meet someone who has seen one of my videos. We've been blessed over the years to make many new friends all over the world and this weekend was no exception!

Anyway, I'm just back from the fun fly in Sacramento this weekend. My friend Marcus Kim was there as well but his helicopters were lost by the airline until late Friday night so he flew one of my Tigers (the same one Steve and others had a go at) on Friday.

Folks, if you've never attended a SVRW fun fly, you've missed out on the time of your life! Kevin and Andy really know how to run a show and Chuck and Phil especially know how to put on the feedbag . . . that steak Friday night was the best darn piece of meat I've had in my life! We sat under the lights around the table as God put on a light show at dusk that cannot be rivaled by man - and there were no mosquitoes!

There were many great guys in attendance, Lee, Todd, Steve, Dan, Chris, et al were a great bunch to fly with. I'm witness to the fact that the cameraderie on the west coast is every bit a good as the famous Southern hospitality I've experienced all my life and the fabled generosity of those in CT last weekend.

Next weekend it's Springfield, MO.

John,
I am sorry to have missed you on Saturday. I got there around 4:30 p.m. My buddy said you had just left, maybe next year.

I too am very sorry to have missed meeting up but the time change played havoc with my time sense (after me and Marcus it was three hours later since we were really on Eastern time) and what's worse, we missed out on the traditional SVRW go cart racing also because while the spirit was willing, the flesh was weak. Persdonally, by 9 PM I was sleeping like a baby because it was mid-night as far as the old bod was concerned, don't you know!

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to new friends in Springfield, MO most especially as for recently I've been having to repair helis following a fun fly. This time I got a respite and will actually bring two intact machines and not have to work on them htis week in preparation!
