e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > What's Wrong?

I have recently replaced my main shaft, my blade grips, my rotor head and I still can't figure out why my blades have a wobble to them. At slow RPM's it looks like right above my main shaft is wobbling. I replaced the main shaft, that didn't solve anything. I had a brand new rotor head, so I put that on, it still wobbles. I checked the Pitch Links, the blades are tracking right and if they aren't, it's so close that I can't tell. When I speed the RPM's up, the blades seem to be a little more out of track. I don't know what I might have overlooked? Can anyone help me figure this out?! It's bugging the heck out of me!

Thanks Crazyhumpy

Sorry, I thought that I'd just mention, that I have brand new blades. They have never hit anything!

Yeah, they're balsa! I can't bring myself to buy carbon, yet! I still have mishaps, every once and a while!

When you say "right above my main shaft" do you mean on the hub itself? Also, just making sure..... you replaced the feathering shaf as well?

Is your flybar bent or uneven? That can send you on a wild goose chase sometimes.

Is the wobble only at low RPM before you hit hover speed? If so, I hear that is fairly normal, and as long as it runs smooth once the head speed is up, it is nothing to really worry about.

If that is not the case... I had the same problem with mine not too long ago ... In the end the method I used to fix it was to by an ARF kit and move the electronics over... well ok .. I had about $70 in parts in my hand and then remembered the whole thing was only $100. It just made more sense.

First take the main blades off and see if you still have the wobble. If so, replace the feathering shaft and flybar. If that doesnt work, strip it down and rebuild the whole thing. After adding a part/section, spin the motor up and watch for the wobble. I am thinking that a bad bearing on the main shaft could also cause this. If it gets to the point where you want to give up, and would rather throw money at the problem, get the ARF kit.

JesDer's comment about pulling off the blades and seeing if it still wobbles is a good one. I had a wobble problem on mine and the blade tracking seemed fine. Rather than give you the lengthy details of my stupidity; I'll sum it up in that I had bought two pairs of brand new blades and had accidentally mixed the two up when putting stripes on the tips for tracking. Sets of main blades are balanced to each other (or at least they're supposed to be). If the blade tracking is OK, and you don't have any wobble without the blades, try replacing both main blades with another new set straight out of the bag and see if it corrects the problem.

These cheap wood blades are not balanced from the factory to the degree that mixing and matching them would make one iota of difference.

The E-Flite brand main blades are matched fairly well from the factory. Mixing and matching is not a good idea unless you take the time to balance them. I have not had any set that needed balancing yet unless I mixed and matched.

Also .. Don't use tracking tape for the wood blades. Just take a red/blue marker to the tip of each blade. This is much better than adding tracking tape and does the job just as well. This is the one thing I really don't like about moving to the CF blades.

(edit to add the branded main blades .. not sure about how the cheaper branded blades are)

I hate to disagree with you stealth but I witnessed it first handed.

Hula dancers don't wobble as much as my Blade did with a mixed set of main blades.

Maybe it was a fluke, but when I un-mixed the set everything was right again.

JesDer,

Sharpie Permanent Markers are what I use on the white blades, and I agree with you that it works much better than tape. For the CF blades I've used a red paint marker that Testors sells. Coloring one tip red with it works very well for tracking, although it does take a while to dry. I suppose you could color both tips with different colors if you want, maybe white for the other one?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it! I took my blades off and gave it throttle and the whole assembly above the pin that holds everything on the main shaft was wobbling! I know the main shaft isn't bent! I'm lost. Sorry for not being more specific! I'm pretty much familiar with all of the parts, just can't remember all of the names, just yet!
