Saw a T50 today, the guy was trying to do a chaos and TINK!

The heli flew fine, he landed it and the boom was all but severed. I guess its a really small belt because it spun fine but the boom looked pretty well sqashed. If I had my digi with me I'd have posted a picture.

He was flying zagsaw blades and hard dampeners.

That's pretty unusual and if you don't believe me, eyeball Pete Campbell giving a Tiger 50 a workout.

One here in Indy had a boom strike today as well. Here's a video of it before the strike.

Awesome Flight!!!!!

WreckRman2

I don't know the pilot on your video, but it certainly was a beautiful flight.... and this is on a heli that is under $300.00!!!!!!!
But it seems to me that a lot of people are forgetting that this is a great "training" heli....and the stress that was put on this machine in the video was probably well above the design parameters, but it still took it..... I have seen some of these manuevers blow apart some much more expensive units.....
There are limits on every machine.... and if someone pushes it long & far enough, eventually they will find out where that is......
Not bad for a trainer heli!!!!!! Not bad at all!!!!!!!
Thanks for the post......

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

That was flown by a friend of mine... yes you are correct on the stress. My Raptor 50 exploded in flight when the head block broke due to the load. I take full blame for it simply because I pushed it past when it was meant to fly.

I will say that I feel the Tiger 50 is going to be a great heli for the cost but as you can see others are boom striking it as well when pushed hard.

Now I'm flying a Evo 50 and it's been pushed much harded then in this Tiger video and it has came out without problems so far. Here's a video of the Evo 50.

Guys I was the person flying the Tiger in video that Wreckrman2 took. I think I have figured out what happend to cause of the boom strike.
What happend was we flung a magnet out of the govenor and the head speed dropped quite a bit. So I don't care if your flying a Fury if the head speed drops your going to boom strike. I have boom struck a Raptor doing the same thing.

JC Zankl

Wow, it takes a big man to step up and explain what happened to cause a crash - especially as it would have been very easy to lay blame on the Tiger by just not saying anything! As you can probably imagine, this thread has caused us more than a little distress since so many folks are thrashing their Tigers without problems.

Anyway, while I don't really know who JC Zankl is - I do know he's both one heck of a pilot, and one heck of a man. Kudos for stepping up to explain what happend! You betcha I'm sleeping good tonight!

Last thing, the piro-flip, or Chaos maneuver is one where pumping the collective whilst using cyclic and maintaining a constant tail rotor makes it a hard maneuver to master, i.e. it's one where it's pretty easy to get discombobulated and next thing you know collective management has gone out the window. Hence, it's an easy maneuver in which to destroy a helicopter . . . regardless of whether it's a mega-dollar XCell or a plastic fantastic like the Tiger!

My 2¢

About the Kaos. Most people until they know what they are going are "stick bangers." I have kaosed everything from Concept 30's with foam blades to X-Cell's It's all in being smooth.

That video is a great display of how great the Tiger really flies. To do all of those moves without a boom strike says alot. Watching that shows me how much more practic I need.
