| I have flown this exact same motor in many planes, and now using them for heli tails. I have never had to take one apart. I put 80 hours on one in a bipe. Many, many people fly this motor in planes - THOUSANDS of them flying. 99.9% of the flying population does not take them apart before use.
That said, a little cleaning every now and then may not be a bad idea, but you need to be very careful if you are not familiar with motors - when taking this tiny one apart. The brushes are like knats, and they are mounted on little spring arms which come together as soon as the bell is removed. I can see some noob trying to jam the end bell back on without knowing the brushes need to be held apart.
I have taken some of these apart for post mortum inspection after they have finally died - and my conclusion is that if used properly - they will last as long as they are going to - with or without maintenance. Some last longer than others, but in no case should they last less than 20 hours - or the install or load was probably not correct. |
