OK....the plan sheet is finished! I have many, many flights still with the same prototype! I mades some subtle changes to the design. Small changes that really effect the flight charactaristics in such away that it really took me by suprise. Now, I can say that this gyro flies awesome and the mast is near bullet proof.

I have a plan sheet and build CD for the landing gear, mast and blades. The body is straight forward stick building. I have a lot of info on the plan sheet that explains everything.
My blades are awesome. I show you how to build them, no need to spend bigg $$ for ready made blades. My rotor plates are now being fabricated by MJP Carbon. CNC cut out of G-10 firberglass for nice flex but strong as heck!

My other posts were from my designing stages. It is funny looking back at it now. Attached are some photos from the building CD.

It is a straight forward build. If you have built any planes in the past...it is a breeze. Even if you have never built before....you can do it. I am always an email away for questions.

The fuselage is stick confuguration and covered on the top and bottom with 1/16" balsa. The fuselage is strong anc take some bunishment as long as the covering is tight. I have had mine for over a year and have smacked it around quite a bit. I have finally laid it to rest and will be building a brand new one this weekend.

My blades work awesome. I show you exactly how to buld them. If you chicken out on the blades....no big deal because many of my customers use the Aerobalsa 2" wide blades. Even Autogyros of Arizon has blades that will work...the ones for the Gyro Bee.

The head has a G-10 rotor blade that flexes for the flapping hinge effect for forward flight. You can use that alone or you can use a carbon fiber plate undernieth the G-10 plate to keep the blades from drooping down too far.

Look in my gallery under DAG-1 Autogyro...you will see tons of photos and you will get a better understanding of what it is all about.

It is in the build guide. What I did was build the gyro in the glow version on the CD. To build it electric, you just omit the tank set up. The key is in the balance. Once it is built....then you can move the battery around for the proper CG (nose down attitude).

Here is the list from the plans:

1. 2 pcs. 1/4" balsa 4" wide 36" long. One piece for making 1/4" strips on the fuselage. One piece for parts.
2. Balsa stripper
3. Master Airscrew gearbox for speed 500 motor.
4. 2 pieces of .125 music wire and shaft collars
5. 2 pieces of .078 music wire and shaft collars
6. 1/32" plywood
7. 1/8 plywood
8. 5/32 plywood
9. 2 pieces of 1/16 x 12 x 12 plywood
10. 1 piece of 1/16 x 12 x 12 balsa
11. 1/16 G-10 fiberglass sheet Unless you go to www.MJPcarbon.com, they have the rotor plate and the carbon fiber base plate to keep the rotors from tail strikes.
12. # 11 Trexler tires You can use any tire really...
13. 3 pieces 1/4 x 3 air foil shaped balsa by SIG
14. 3 pieces of .093 music wire
15. 3 servos for electric, four servos for glow
16. Engine and tank for glow, outrunner motor for electric
17. Glues, Balsa Loc and covering.of choice
18. two small rare earth magnets (I use them to close the hatch door, works great!)

If you have your motor and servos....the gyro is not much money. Probably $50.00 or so in wood and wires not including your covering and motor and servos and rotor gear box.

My first air show when I was very young....1968....there was a guy there with an autogyro. Looked like a Benson type but not sure. I was arguing with my dad because I called it a helicopter and my dad told me it was an autogyro. I had never heard of such! Non powered rotors? Are you kidding me? When he took off.....I could not believe it. It was soo cool to watch and he was one Hell of a pilot with tons of stall turns....fast flybys and then when he landed....it just floated down like a feather. THEN....dad actually took me over to talk to pilot. He was such a nice guy. He explained everything to me and even let me sit in the gyro. Man.....after that.....I was hooked. Then it all came to me as I would watch old movies with autogyros in them. I saw Jame Bond flying his Little Nellie gyro that same summer. I saw an old movie on TV that showed the Kellet gyro land on top of a building in PA. "It Happened One night" was on TV and my dad made sure I saw that! My dad was the best!

I got into RC planes and eventually helicopters. I learned AutoCAD and I started designing planes, parts, motor mounts and heli parts. I had the old version of the Gyro Bee. I loved that thing. There were some short comings on that bird and I eventually lost it.

It hit me one day.....design your own autogyro. The only thing holding me back was my own fear of failing. I went for it. I made like three version until I was happy with the current one. The first version....with my home made blades flew on my second attempt. Man that was exciting.

Now....I am sending my plans all over the world and it is very exciting that people like what I have designed and enjoy flying it.

pretty cool story dave. you should send that out with your plans as a keep sake. maybe even get a little forum started up as to why people areflying today - could be lots of interesting stories like yours out there.....

There is a real autogyro that lives here at my home airstrip, and one of my buddies here on RR owns one and does testing of them. Seeing them fly has really peaked my interest, thank you for your work on this. Thanks to you I'm sure I will build one!
