e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > Blades are tough buggers!

I've been flying my blade all summer. A complete newbie. I still have the training gear on.

But, I've progressed from barely able to hover, to flying high and doing some basic forward flight.

I got a little over confident and the heli got a little far away in low light, and I lost perspective then control. Before I knew it, it was upside down and heading for the ground.

Hit with a thump. I thought, man, this is gonna be BAD. To my suprise, all I did was bend the flybar a bit, and punch some holes in the canopy. I dusted her off, bent the bar back into shape, and off she went again.

Other then the crappy tail motors, and a some problems with the first run (blade grips welded on, which Horizon took care of for me), this is a great little heli.

I hope they come out with a brushless version.

Cheers!

Be sure and check your main shaft after any crash that bends the flybar or breaks the main blades. You can usually tell if the shaft is bent by just turning the main blades by hand. If the shaft or swash wobbles at all - it is bent. It should run perfectly true.

The two hard crashes I have had with the Blade has bent a main shaft. I switched to the Esky main gear and seperate main shaft - and I keep main shafts handy at all times.

Believe it or not, no problem this time.

What's different about the Esky shaft and main gear? I have an extra Blade set, but have not used it yet.

Thanks,
Lee

The Esky main shaft and main gear are two different parts, unlike the Blade main gear/main shaft unit.

It makes maintenance easier. You can pull out or drop in the complete, assembled head unit - like it should be :-)

The Esky gear also has a metal hub, and is thicker. Overall - it runs truer. Happy landings!

I just sold my blade; I didn't like the seperate tail rotor setup. Other than that, it hovers great. How much range are you getting? Mine only had around 100 feet before I put a whip antenna on it. That about tripled it and cut down on the glitching.

toyturbo,

From what I've heard you're best off staying away from the base load whip antennas... Seems they either work real well or they're completely disasterous depending on who you talk to. With my luck I decided not to chance it... I kinda looked at one to clean up the look of my Blade as well.

Takes a licking...

I completely agree, they are tough little buggers... I'm really just getting into the hobby with mine. During my attempts at getting hovering down it has taken a "forcible landing" on cement a few times, had a run in with a garage door while rolling on it's training gear, and had a head to head encounter with a bush. All I've had happen is a bit of heavy dinging up on the wooden blade ends and I've had the tail rotor pop off once or twice (just enough so that it spun freely).

I've got a set of training gear on mine and it's hit hard and rolled more than a few times with surprisingly no damage. I think the time that worried me most was when one of the training gear's "ping pongs" rolled off. The piece of tubing that kept it on popped off from a hard landing. I put a drop of CA glue on the end pieces of tubing to keep them attached to the carbon fiber rods and it ceased to be a worry.

One thing I have noticed is occasionally after a hard landing it seems that gyro kind of freaks out. Unplugging and replugging the battery seems to correct it.

I think the most damage to the heli has been the denting of main rotor blades against the tail boom during transport in my car. I've since gotten a foam blade holder made by "align" from the local hobby shop that has put an end to that (I highly a recommend a blade holder if you transport your heli much). I dented up two sets of main blades before I learned that lesson.
