Whacha need to be in the game

OK, here is one of my real secrets.

Shop and compare before you buy!!!

Or

Set up a course and test E.T.'s before you race!

I have a couple of guys that are really good at running a stop watch.

They time from the moment I leave the line to the end of a 100 meter course.

To be anywhere near the front, you need to have an E.T. of around 4 seconds (or less!).

The machine I won with in 2001 ran 3.99 at 100 meters with no wind, at 1100' MSL with an OAT of ~ 70°F

There should be an electronic way to do the timing, I just havn't figured it out yet.

4.00 seconds is a good number to shoot for.

well the electric here peaked 5 1/4 HP. 3920 watts , at a V curve of 90-80-90 , so I still have some headroom, 710 mah tapers ,

Timing could probably be achieved by using a pressure mat to start the timer, and an optical slot detector at the end of the run. ie the slot detector could incorporate a ligh sensor, point upwards through a slot. The width of the slot would restrict the "lane" width that the opto-receiver could see, so that the electronics would be more accurate. The pressure mat sensor could be radio linked to the electronics at the optical sensor end so there aint no wires.

what about using a transponder-type system, like used in rancing r/c cars? you could make it so you have to mount the tx'pr "x" distance from, say, the centerline of the main mast, so that it would be fair. hence a longer body( put it in the nose) or longer blades wouldn't get you the win. these things are measuring(if memory serves correct) to .001sec, i believe.
