e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > Going with some Esky parts... question for Boyd

After trashing out my main frame, canopy, main blades, and main shaft today doing some back flips in the street - I decided to go looking for cheaper parts.

I am trying out some Esky parts - basically they are 40-50% less than Eflite parts. I am getting them from www.balsapr.com

Sym blades are only $6.65 a pair !! That is almost 1/3 the price of Eflite.

The main shaft and main gear are also seperate parts now on the Esky - which could be easier for maint & cheaper for crash repair.

My question for Mr. Hoverup - are these parts pretty much plug & play? They sure look it. THANKS!

Anyhow - as an aside for 3D learners - doing tricks with the TREX and HH gyro are WAYYYYY easier than with the Blade :-)

Will those blades work? And the other parts too? I would like to know as well.

I am using these pieces with no problems. Unfortunately they are all in my hangar in Ocean Springs, MS and I'm in Tallahassee. Keep your eyes on E-Sky as they are constantly bringing updated improvements to what was the Blade CP. The HoneyBeeCP 2 has a Bell-Hiller head that will bolt on to the Blade and give you greatly improved cyclic response. Then there is the HoneyBee CP King which has a shaft driven tail and even better head mechanics.

Thanks for the info Boyd - hopefully you make it to 'ole MS again soon..

I wonder when we'll find out the dirt on this heli - i.e.: who really owns the molds and/or the frame design. Probably not Horizon. My guess is they are either making or having the parts made under license, or just buying them straight up from the real mfg - perhaps Esky?

How about those 4-in-1's - you would think there aren't really too many sources for them - maybe only one.

The more I learn about Esky - the more it seems like they may be the true source of these parts. Maybe Esky never launched a big USA push - because they had an OEM customer waiting to do it for them in the form of Horizon. I wish that didn't mean the spare parts prices would be marked up 2x in the USA.

I am really happy to hear about the Bell/Hiller head. The Hiller only system works pretty good - can't wait to check out the mixed setup.

Actually, ESky is just a trading company in China. Both ESky and EFlite are getting these puppies from someone in China, but we may never know who the actual manufacturer is.

As far as parts, the Blade and HB2 CP parts are identical. I've ordered ESky parts and Blades parts and compared them. Same damn thing. The numeric section of the part numbers are even the same.

I've been running the Honeybee 2 CP bell/hiller rotor head on my main Honeybee 2 for a while now. I love it. Awesome cyclic response!

I should mention, for the parts you need to make sure you order parts for the Honeybee 2 CP (#5005). These parts are the same as the Blade.

The Honeybee CP2 is a completely different beast. Some of the parts (like the rotor head) will bolt right onto the Blade. Other pieces won't work without mods.

The symmetrical blades used for the Honey Bee CP 2 are longer with added area over those used for the Blade CP. They pull more current and increase motor temps resulting in shortened motor life. They burnt out the stock main motor on the HB CP 2 I have flown in just a few flights. Once replaced with symmetrical blades from the Blade CP, the motor had more power, ran cooler and lasted much longer.

As rbiasi has mentioned, the now out of production (and has been for some time) HB 2 CP was closest to the Blade CP. E-Sky is no longer using the same manufacturer (E-Sky is not a manufacturer, only a distributor/trading company) hence the reason the HB CP2 design/parts are different. Horizon has never done any business with E-Sky and they do not assemble the Blade CP in any way.

As for the bell-hiller head, one will be available shortly for the Blade CP that performs as well as the HB CP2 head but with less parts, is lighter and more robust, and installs in just a few minutes. It also has a new blade grip design with added bearings and step washers to completely eliminate any "sticky collective" due to the grip/bearing/washer assembly (Something E-Sky has still not solved).

I can assure you that we too will constantly be improving our models and offering many more parts in the near future.

LVRCFlyer,
How about a CNC aluminum bell-hiller head? That's something I'd buy in an instant!

The new rotor head sounds cool. I especially like the more robust part. The mixer arms on the CP2 head are kinda fragile.

Boyd,

I done various searches and come up with nothing on:

Honeybee CP King

Do these tail setups hold up decently?

Any links or where to look would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!

Todd - It may take a couple days as the two hard drives with the links are somewhere in the remains of my home off the Gulf Coast. I brought the King and HB CP 2 with me when I evacuated as I feel they are far superior to the Blades I left in the remains of my home hangar.

I'll post some pictures and impressions as soon as I confirm that this new laptop will take the memory stick from my Nikon Digi camera.

LVRC - thanks for the main rotor blade info. I will decide what to do when they get here. For the price - I may just break out the razor saw and shorten the blades.... at least until I can 3D with my eyes closed, or the Horizon replacements get to about $10.

Looking at the pics closer on balsapr.com - the Esky CP2 frame is different. The servo mounting and the skid mounting are a little different. It doesn't look like it would be a big deal.

You can get a whole Esky CP2 heli - bare bones with blades & motors, for $75 there - can't beat that. Crash on!

Hi Boyd,

Hope things are going well for you. Just sent Heli-Fever an e-mail to see when the King will be available again (out of stock). The more I look at it the better I like it!! I also asked them if the King can be gotten W/O the servos, motor, and ESC. Will see what they say. Irregardless, I will be going after it and plan on putting a brushless in her with a Berg and GY-240. I'm a thinkin that this is what I've been in search of as a suitable, small sized, indoor/outdoor flyer - looks like it should fit the bill. Do you have any further input or additional thoughts on the King so far??? Didn't see a parts listing for the King at the website and also went to their vendors (which none have the King listed). I think this heli will take care of the tail issue for good on this class size of heli. Thanks.
