e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > dont throw away those tail motors

my first one just went out after several dozen flights......i opened it up and although the brushes are worn, there is still plenty of material left....the reason it went out is because debris from the brushes eventually shorted them out. I cleaned up, reassembled and it is good as now..probably get another couple of dozen flights out of the brushes.

It is not inconcievable that we could just replace that backplate/brushes if we could get them from the manufacturer. And order of 1000 backplates with brushes couldnt cost more than 100 bucks i'm thinking (all the cost of the motor is in the armature/magnets/shaft).

Any ideas?

Ideas

My idea is to find a good replacement for the stock motor so when your tail motor goes you can put a good one in...Mine just went

I know there are brushless ones but there has to be a brushed one that will just bolt right in on a stock Blade that is dependable and doesn't go down after 10-15 flights

Thanks

I am getting way more than 15 flights out of mine. Dont know how many but it has been a lot. Now I did have one that only lasted 15 or 20 but my first one lasted a long time and the one that I am flying with now is really lasting a long time. Im using TP 1320 and TP 900 3 cell packs. The motors are so cheap and easy to replace that I dont really worry about it. but thats just me.

10 - 15 flights is really short for any heli. Make sure your gain setting is not to high (you might have high frequency tail wag) and I heat sink out my tail motors - seems to improve duration.

Put a micro brushless tail motor on it and forget about it burning out again. It's so much easier to bin the stock motor and instal the brushless motor from the get go. It saves you a lot of time and money. It also has way more power then the brushed motor version.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Is it really that easy? Doesn't it involve replacing the speed controller and thus the receiver/mixer? If it was a simple 'plug and play' swap that would fix everything.

Well it is for those who run separates anyway. The 4 in 1 mixing board isn't worth anything. They gyro that come in it sucks. It's easier to go separates and get a helicopter that flies good.

dpn't throw away those tail motors

Going to separates removes all the class of the 219 dollar Blade package.

If I wanted separates, I would put my shogun belt together.

The Blade is neat for its simplicity.

And a really good gyro would cost as much as i paid for my first Blade used.

tail mototr,,,, finally !

Well, just after posting this am, my tail motor did finally go out after thousands of three second flights, hundreds of 20 second flights, and now, as long as i can stand to fly the thing.

3 cell lypos, totally stock with training gear. No heat sinks as they are on my new one that almost immediately blew the fou-in-one unit for some reason

The motor just lost power, very slowly over a dozen long flights this am. Trim moving further right, then having to hold full right to fly.

Replaced it and everything is great,,,,,,,,,,
