FLYINFOOL Veteran Location: Cudahy, WI
| The only parts of the canopy that are the same between the Stinger and the Raptor are the locations of the 3 mounting points and the fact that they both have a removable window. The styling is different enough that the Stinger is almost 2 inches narrower than the raptor, yet at +14° in Hold the aileron bell cranks hit the inside of a V2 canopy but not a Singer canopy.
As far as making the chassis similar enough so that parts can be interchanged, I see as a good thing.
It means that in a pinch you can put a Raptor part on your Stinger or a Stinger part on your Raptor. Compatibility is a plus when you need a part at a Fun fly to get back in the air.
For raptor owners it gives a much lower cost option for replacement parts.
A good portion of sales is to Raptor owners tired of high prices.
It is not bad business to work with a mature market.
Yes there is the argument that Raptors are considered cheap already.
But face it Both helies are marketed and aimed at the beginner market, and the 3D guy that can not afford to wipe out his $3k pride and joy learning a new maneuver.
The Stinger is just a less expensive alternative to the Raptor.
As I have stated in many other threads, I purchased and liked my Stinger long before I even considered becoming a Gohbee Field Rep, and I do currently own and fly both a R50SE and a Stinger 50. I have owned at least one Raptor at all times since they first came on the market. So I do know them well. Having had a Stinger for over a year I am now very familiar with it also. I can see and appreciate the differences between them.
