Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > WOW,,, Falcon, more powerful climb outs !!

My radio is a JR 8103 digital,,,,,,,

I could not understand why my Falcon V2 (OS 50) did not climb-out that much faster than my Hawk V2 did, (my hawk had an OS 32),,, I thought maybe it needed more nitro, or maybe the 50 is not broke-in yet and I have to lean it more,,,,,,

OK,,, so newbies are allowed a little leeway,,, right,,,,,
I'm always looking and reading my 8103's manual,,,,, so right from the beginning (on my Hawk) I was limiting the travel of my Collective and Throttle Servos with the Servo Travel Adjust (or End Point Adjust),,, as you would the Cyclic or Tail Servos,,, so I called Horizon and asked them about this, and they said to set the Servo Travel Adjust at 100% and use the Collective and Throttle Curves to limit the servo travel,,, so I did,,, WOW !!, now my climb outs are 1/3 faster !!, I could not believe it !! I did not touch any thing els !!

Settings,,,
My collective and throttle curves were both set at 100%,,, now they are set at Collective 74% and Throttle 75%,,, I'm thinking now maybe the carb WAS opening to fast and was bogging the motor,,, all I know now is that my climb outs are faster and more powerful !! and she seems to be smoother too !!

I can't wait to get to the field and do some looping !!

Sounds like your needle settings still need more tweaking. The low end is probably too rich a tad.

back from the field

I just got back, and all I can say is she want's to climb up and up and up,,, and she flies smoother too !!

jimmyhua
yes it was rich on the low end too, but I did not touch the low end until after I did all those climb outs !!

Anyway, it flew smoother and more powerful,,,,, but my fan broke when I started it once...

the Wasp, are you using a starter shaft with a one way bearing to start your engine???? If not check this http://www.runryder.com/showtopic.h...64&topicid=7166

There is a point on the OS50 that is too rich to fire properly, in the proper direction, instead it will backfire. This is the force that is violently kicking the fan backwards against the pin (which is being forced in the opposite direction by the starter) and damaging either one or the other.

This is a sign, you're too rich on the low end. The engine fired up, and practically backfired on you.

If you're worried about getting it too lean because the engine is still new and you are still breaking her in (i.e. less than 3 gallons)... Well then just remember to richen up the low end as you lean the high end out....

When your low end is too rich, the engine will stumble on transition from idle to full power, thus giving you mediocre performance. When you reduced the curve, you effectively slowed the throttle servo down, giving the engine a chance to catch up and not stumble, as your transition is much much slower now.

Ask any rc airplane guy what happens when his low end is too rich.
He get's to throttle up his airplane much slower, or the engine will stumble.

Again, if you don't believe me, just try putting back the throttle curves the way they were, remember where the low end mixture screw was, and lean it out a good 20-30 degrees, and fly her.

Believe me, you haven't seen a rocket ship yet!!!

Now, if your OS50 has less than 1 gallon through her, don't do this heheheh.

Thanks Jimmy

My OS 50 has just 1 gallon on it, it seems every time I fly it gets stronger !!,,,,

And I took your advice and moved the flybar weight in some, I moved them in 1&3/4 inches and it's much more enjoyable to fly, they still need to go in more to get her to roll tighter, but I'm happy for now, I don't want to take to big of a leap you know, I'll get use-to the feel and in about a half gallon I will move them in another 1&1/2 inches or so,,,,,

I think that's funny that you know my heli better than I do, you know what it needs just how I talk about it, that's cool !!

Thanks Jimmy
