over the weekend i saw the top F3c pilot going through his technique and fell in love with that style of super smooth flying. i figured it would be a great discipline to take up instead of 3d flying and i was wondering how's a 50 size for starting out? what kinda radio setup should i use?

I won the intermediate class with it, in 2003. So it's acceptable
But larger machines are a lot more stable. You need good fingers to compete against larger machines in wind.
I use FF8 super. But check what you really need.

imo the standard freyas are the smoothest thing for the money. you can put an 0S 70 in it and have a really nice large machine that wont cost much more than a 50.

you will need very good fingers to fly a 50 against 60s and 90s, unfortunately fingers that you only really get after flying 50s and big helis....go easy on yourself, get a 60-90 size heli if you want to fly like that!

Actually I think you get the best fingers by training on an under-sized machine.
But switching to a large machine only for the competition would not work. Maybe there's some optimal combination?

Branzz....I'm nearly beaten by a stock Raptor 50

You will need fuel and plenty of practise

But if you want to fly F3C seriously in long term, then a bigger machine will be better.

Size does matter.

Well

I have been surprised how well I can get a Raptor 50 to do F3C. The power to weight is right up there with a larger model. It does require a larger and heavier flybar paddles and heavier blades but that's easy. One of the things I wish TT would do for the Raptor 50 is make an adapter kit for a larger flybar. ......

In term of practice / fuel consumption, how about trainning with a Joker?
