Stolen? Missing Helis or Equip > THEFT ALERT (Seattle Area)

Since I was planning on flying in the morning, I left my heli in my
car last night. Someone stole the following from my car:

Freya
JR 8103 Transmitter
Hanger 9 starter

I think is was kid(s) and/or someone who knows something about
the hobby. My flight box was in the car as well. My wife found
the flight box at the end of the driveway (they found it too heavy?)
but they did steal the starter that was in the flight box. They didn't
take the ni-start. They also took a CD walkman from my wife's
car but left a small amount of money that was in her car. They
also didn't take a couple of credit cards that both my wife and I
had in our cars. Enough rambling.

Detaills on the equipment:

Freya - Stock canopy, American flags on both sides at the
mainshaft. The bottom of the canopy has a split seam that has
been repaired. The vertical fin is a Mr. Carbon 3d fin, but the
horizontal fin is the stock plastic fin. OS 61SX-WC engine and
Muscle Pipe. Electronics include JR 9 channel S-PCM Rx on
Ch. 33, Sanyo 2000 4 cell pack, battery monitor, JR 460T gyro,
JR 8231 on the collective, Futaba 9202s on the cyclics and a
JR 531 in the throttle. 680 V-blades and SAB (X-Cell) carbon
t/r blades. Upgrades include the EX washout guide, 3rd
bearing block, and 93 tooth delrin gear. She also has a JR
servo support attached to the main frames to support the
collective servo.

Transmitter - JR 8103 Heli version in a Hobbico single
transmitter case. Thankfully, this is the radio I use for
planks, but it's only a couple of months old (Father's
Day gift). Model 1 is named Wiley, Model 2 is named
Lite Stk. Model 10 is named Sim. At the time, there
was no transmitter module in the transmitter (or a setup
for the Freya).

Starter - Hanger 9 starter with a Pegae start shaft. There
is a Hobbico starter battery box attached to the starter.
Since that didn't work out very well, I've also got a couple
of 6 cell car packs attacked to the battery box. It's all
wired with R/C car wires and Deans Ultra power connectors.

That's it (as if it isn't enough). I'm glad our heli transmitters
were in the house getting charged (two 10SXIIs). That's
the silver lining on this cloud. They also didn't take the
Supernova or the plank starter in the car. I've already
notified all the R/C shops in the area. I'll post a notice at
Marymoor ASAP, but I'm stuck here at home. I called the
police but they have been a little busy today dealing with
a bank robbery/hostage situation in town (Kirkland) that
is still in progress. Maybe they have my heli in the back
of their getaway car...

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Reyes (who is really missing his main squeeze, Freya).

Man thats jacked up, I would be in tears, I could care less if they stole the car, but leave the Heli. The worse thing is they have no idea what they have, and the ability it takes to get it running and flying. They'll probably end up in the hospital, which would serve them right for stealing, damn thieves I hate them. Daz...

Sorry to hear about your loss...Have you contacted your Auto and/or homeowners insurance company about this, yet. I'd bet either would cover your loss (minus a deductable, of course). I would think that the AMA $1,000 theft portion of the policy would cover the deductable.

Hope everything works out,

Mike

Check with your insurance company for coverage. I talked to my insurance company about loss of RC stuff and said it was covered 100% up to my personal property limit which is very high. I would only have to pay the deductible. Sorry for your loss but maybe your insurance co. can help....good luck and I hope you catch them!
ps..that was on my home owners insurance not the auto insurance.

Rotor,

I suggested the auto insurance thing only because the stuff was stolen out of his car. I just hate to see someone screwed out of flying because of someone elses greed, and talking to both might give him more options for a better settlement. As an added bonus, if they ever do find the thief then BOTH insurance companies will sue his sorry but to recover their loss!

Sounds good to me! The reason I asked my insurance co. about covering them was to first find out how much if any they would cover and how much seperate insurance for them would be. They told me it would cost .67 for every one hundred dollars worth of coverage and it would cover everything but crashes with no ded. They gave me a for instance of 15,000.00 worth of coverage for right at 200.00 per year. That does make for pretty good sleeping at night knowing that it is well covered. I don't know about the auto insurance side of it though...Don

I had the same thing happen to me. What the homeowners insurance didn't pick up, AMA did. AMA even paid faster!

Thanks guys.

The bank robbery situation finally ended and the cops came out.
It turns out a couple of other cars were hit in our block. One had
a car stereo stolen and I don't the details on the other. My wife
called the insurance company and since the cars were in the
driveway, our homeowner's policy covers the loss. There will
be a very small deductable and our rates will go up just a bit,
but it's well worth the small rate increase. We'll wait and see if
my baby shows up somewhere. Of course by the time everything
gets cleared up one way or the other, we'll probably be back into
the rainy season up here. I still have my heli transmitter and have
a backup starter, etc. so I'll get to fly, but the Freya really has been
the only heli I've been flying for the last year or so.

Go to your flying feild every day and look for it. someone may buy it off of who ever stole it and thought it was his, and then goes flying with it on the weekends or something.

It also maybe covered under your homeowners or renters insurance, since the car was in your driveway! You might check into that also.

Just a thought.

Reyes this is fuc*ed. I will call my dad who nows a couple of KC cops
and almost every pawnshop in the area, and have them keep an eye out.
What you also need to do is parse the county arrest records for car prowling in your area. If it was a juvinial there name wont be on it
but give me the record # and I WILL HAVE IT CHECKED OUT.
Dude I feel your pain my house was ripped off for 10,000$ last year.
They took a new 1400$ Mig, 2500$ Tig, 5hp compressor, and
2 laptops. ( thank the heli gods they did not take any rc gear.)
Also they will be back garrenteed. Get a webcam pointed at the car
and put lots of change in the console and some old cd cases, with the
door unlocked. I have one if you want to borrow it.
The next thing is to put up a flyer on the major intersections, A 60 is going to be hard to hide from mom and dad. If mom or dad see the flyer they will put 2 and 2 together.

Too bad...

Reyes,
That is rotten! I was just at Ulitmate Hobbies today getting fuel and Chris told me somebody had a Freya snagged. Sorry to hear it was you.
If you don't see it before the Marymoore fun fly come look me up you can take mine up for a tank or two.
Hope the CT is back together also. Saw the little mishap it had on Sunday at Snohomish.

Sorry to hear that. Not to put you or anyone else down, that is why I never leave anything in my car at any time. Even when I go to the shops or something. A mate of mine had his 9Z & other stuff stolen out of his car overnight while it was in his driveway! Luckily it was found some time later.

My car insurance company notified me at renewal time that nothing inside the car is covered unless it is part of the car itself.

AMA covers, what, $1000? That will pay for the on board electronics, that's about it.

I just added a double deadbolt to my door to the garage since I've had 3 attempted burgularies, all within 4 days. This way they might get into the house, but they won't get into the garage where all the helis are. Hopefully they won't come back. Livin in a city on the edge of anarchy has its disadvantages.

Ouch!

I hear you, man.

It was about the same time when I started the hobby that my car, with all my RC gear and golf set, was stolen (and I just had new wheels and audio system put into the car too). So, I know exactly how you feel. That sucks, big time!!

Rockcrawler, you wouldn't have contacts in Taiwan too would ya??

Hmmmmmm

Where in the vehicle was this stuff?I would bet it was in plain view and not in the trunk.I know it's terrible for someone to do this to anyone but they walk by to see what's in a vehicle first and if they see something then they go through the trouble of breaking in.If it was in the trunk then look around you real close because it must of been a neighbor watching you.Now a days you can't leave change in a change holder without someone wanting it.AMA should cover part of it just make sure you got a police report.Goodluck..
