How does the vigor cs stack up to the caliber 60 performance wise. What are the advantages of the caliber to make it cost so much more?

You can buy two CS's for the price of one Caliber.
It's all about who's on the sticks remember...
The direct competitor for the Caliber is JR's Sylphide.

Personally, I think given a choice between the CS and the Caliber, the CS represents better value for money. I love mine!

CS vs. Caliber ? Oh boy, its like Mustang vs. Acura NSX. You can buy 2 tangs for the price of one NSX. They are both excellent cars but you just cant compare the two.

Why Caliber costs so much more ? My guess ...

1. The amount of machining parts vs. plastics
2. Mr. Kunii designs good stuff and is expensive to hire for R/C helicopter design work
3. Caliber is an import product
4. Different company operation scheme... JR has 2 divisions (Radio and Heli) vs. Kyosho is a sole R/C model manfuturer

See the design yourself, check both assembly manual

I own 2 Calibers and I love them all
Hope it helps

I like to add:
5. Different cost and different profit margin.

I like my caliber too. Looking forward to the caliber 90 but I seen in magazine that the sponsored pilot already modified the head.

Cheers,

Chris

The head that you see in the magazine is a design used by Mr. Dobashi. He does his own design work and has flown this design for the last 2 years. This is what he used in the Worlds in 2001. He just installed the head from his Caliber 60 on the 90.

What is merit of this head over the stock head? Is it something to do with + or -ve delta?

Cheers

His head has different delta which is obtainable with the standard head if you use the flapping head mixers on the seesaw. The greatest difference is his mixing ratio is now giving him more flybar authority. This again is obtainable using the mixers from the flapping head. Most of the contest pilots have gone to the mixer on the seesaw as it allows more flexibility in changing the mixing ratios and delta hinging changes.

Thanks, Dwight.

I'll try the mixers when they arrive. Two questions here:
1/. the head that Dobashi used does not have the mixers. The design is more like the Hirobo SSR V head. Is the Caliber mixers can provide that ratio?

2/. Why did they go a long way to put the head in -ve delta?

Thanks again,

Chris

Chris,

With the flapping head mixers you can acheive the mixing ratio that Dobashi uses.

I Like my Caliber a lot even though I am not an FAI type pilot. Its just a smooth flying machine. Yes , I finally got the overheating bug out a while ago. However, I understand that the design and engineering to production is small so a high price is necessary. I am even starting to understand the real small differences such as the 1k carbon weave in the tail boom wich makes it so expensive. But what I do not like, is that if I need something, such as the new type spindle wich I have had on order from tower hobbies now for 3 months I cannot get one. Thank goodness this is not my main heli.
