Is there something different about the gears? I believe they are the same servo except for the gears. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Yes the 9204 has plastic gears and the 9206 has metal gears and new feedback circuit to improve accuracy.

The 9204 was always a metal and plastic geared servo, and I'm almost certain the 9206 is as well. The plastic gears which are a component of the gear train in the 9204 were improved because IMAC airplane pilots (30%+ scale models) were stripping out the plastic gears when the servo was used in groups on single flight surfaces. I just received this information from the marketing director for Futaba in the US.

Thanks guys,

So would a 9204 be a good choice for the collective on a .60? I assume I could put the newer gears in the 9204 but I don't know if I could get the circuit upgraded.(is it that big of a deal?)

The 9204 is an excellent servo for collective on a 60 sized model. You should never have any problems with stripping gears in flight. Todd Bennett flew 9204's for a zillion flights before finally switching to 9252's. The reason for the geartrain change was the problem in big scale aircraft, not helis. The amp might very well be improved, but I think you'll still be quite happy with the 9204.

I've got 9206's in my ThreeDeeNT and I can tell you that there are two 'sacrificial' plastic gears in the geartrain.

I know this because I have had to replace a few and have, up until recently, had a lot of trouble getting hold of 'em.

Don't know about the 9204's though.
