JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Pitch does not add up...

Location:

Something does not make sence with the Venture and my pitch gauge. I've taken my R30 and R60 directly from the table to a solid hover with minor pattern flying for triming. For example a pitch curve that I like for normal mode is -5 too 9 with mid stick at 5-6. The Raptors were happy with this setting but the Venture is not. I used this curve with the Venture, but it will not lift into a hover. Next I entered my setup screen and increased all 5 points by 10, this allowed the bird to lift off and with a couple test climbs and slight trim adj's I was flying some 8's. When done and back on the bench I checked the pitch readings, I was blown away. At mid stick for just a hover, I had 10degs for a reading and at full coll. 15degs. How can this be? The heli flew good with these readings, I've never seen a R30 ship fly with these pitch settings. The head speed is fine, not to slow and def. not overspeeding, in fact this was the first flight on this new bird and I was totaly happy with how it handled some flips and rolls. Are these normal readings for the Venture? Some info would be great...

Check that your main shaft can't move up and down it its bearings.

If it pulls out somewhat when lifting the weight of the model, the pitch will be reduced.

I've also seen this happen with bad blades. There are some cheap fiberglass blades out there that are more suitable for use as engine loaders than actually providing lift. They have a foam leading edge and the rest of the chord is hollow.

The bad blades also reduce performance considerably, so it's more likely that your pitch is changing in flight, compared to what you see on the ground.

true pitch readings

As I understand it, there is slop in the blade grips that allow them
to droop more than most. This causes the trailing edge to drop down
which shows up as more pitch on the guage. When the blade lifts -or
you yourself raise it -the effective result is a washing out of the
pitch. Try reading the pitch guage while gently lifting upward on the
blade and you might find the readings to be closer to what you're
used to. Also, the Venture is not the lightest 30 size heli around. If
you balance it with lead in the nose the weight really gets up there.
The good side to all of this is that the washing out of the blades is similar to that delta thing I've never completely understood and the weight makes it feel like well, a heavier more solid heli that's less affected by gusts and so forth. --Jim

I flew it this last weekend and have decided to just live with it. The heli flies great and rolls unlike my Raptors.
