as you saw on this forum, some guys made that change..
just want to let you guys know that it's really Wroks!
i just did what guys here show us by pictures..
Add this parts: (MAX1241CCSA, it's free from MAX-IC web-site!)




Remove this part:




and as you know it's just became GY601


after then, i just made RESET to the Gyro, and go to Test Flight!
we just had to made some adjustments.. Gain,ATV..
not something special.. and then the tail was Solid-Rock!
before i made the change, when i was doing Flips (any direction), the tail was slide after 3 or 4 flips... now do flips what-ever and it's stays on his direction!
lets say, it's Works great! and i recommend it to anyone who have GY502 and have Tail problems on 3D!

The test was with Servo 9253! and NOT 9251! (i just used Wide-Band on the hidden menu for servos 9253,9254)
will be happy to help any one who want it..

 I am running a G Y 501 with a S 9205 5.5 kgms 0.08 sec, on a Robbe Futura 'Youngblood' and after a reverse loop the tail "Kicks" 90°, so if you can tell me how i can modify mine please.

Paul, i'm not shure anyone try to make convertion of GY501..
well.. can't tell you if it will works for you on GY501 ?!

now craneyum,
there is nothing very much to do step by step..
i uploaded another pictures that should help you soldering all the parts..
and then:
1. you should solder all the parts (don't forget the directional capasitors, you need to solder the right direction)

2. Remove the Part (resistor) as the pics shows.

3. press both FUNC+- and hold the down when you turn on your heli!
now you got into the "hidden" menu.
4. there is option of RESET do it! (don't touch anything else)
5. now get again to the "hidden" menu and change the Band rate
Width = 9253, 9254 servos
Narr = 9251 servo
6. then you just need to ajust your GY601 like it's new from fuctory...
That's all.. (be carfule with the soldering..)

guys, to get the MAX1241CCSA chip for free you can get it from maxim web-site www.maxim-ic.com
you should register there and have your User..
Then on the "Part No. Search" put this MAX1241CCSA
and then select one of the two links he gave you.. never mind wich one..
aaaanndd then, at the buttom there is "Add to Samples Cart"

This is excellent stuff!

I have a slightly different problem. Having more money than sense, I have plenty of 601's but I need them to drive a more powerful servo. If I go into the "hidden" menu, can I convert the output to drive a normal digital servo.

My servo of choice at the moment is the 94742 and it would be great if I could use the 601 to drive it.

Try this, Peter

You must chose the WIDE pulse width on the menu. It is defaulted to NARROW on the 601. I am not sure if there is a hardware feature that causes it to remain in narrow mode, but I doubt it.

what sort of soldering device did you use to perform these changes?

I've done electrical work for most of my life, and I would say this is a pretty skill-requiring job since any excess heat applied would likely damage the PCB and/or the other surrounding components.

I would suspect you used either a SMD soldering machine, or a pin-point high wattage soldering pencil.

I presume that the pictures of the PCB without the IC (max) chip are of the genuine gy502?

What is the typical price difference between the 502 and 601?

i used special solder that keep the temp when i'm soldering..
we solder it with "magnifying glass" to see it well..
if you have good hands, it's not that "hard"!

Just let's make it Clear!

i got few PMs about using the servos 9253,9254
let's make it clear for all of us!
This is the steps "after" making the soldering changes..

1. connect the 502 to your heli "without the 9254 Servo!!!" keep
it unplug!!

2. turn on your TX and then turn on your heli system when pressing
both FUNC +- on your Gyro.. (to get into the Hidden menu)

3. Then on the hidden menu you should make RESET!
use the (+) button two times to confirm the RESET (you will see that)

4. Then turn off and on the Heli system again with both FUNC +- on
your Gyro press down! (to get again into the Hidden menu)

5. now on the hidden menu change the value of "PlsW" (Pulse Width)
and change it from "Nar"=9521 to "Wid"=9253,9254

6. only now it's safe to connect the servo 9253,9254

hope you guys got it!

So I presume this can be done on 601 so you can use other servos other that the 9251 ?

not that you would want to, just incase

well.. didn't try that (don't have original 601)
but lets say.. i saw some peoples that the 9251 is got Bad! and stop working.. now they can try 9253 or 9254 befor spending 110$ on this Servo-9251!!

you can try it on your heli, on the table.. if it's works there it's should work also nice on Air!
didn't try it, but i think it will work just fine!

anyone think this Convert from GY502 to GY601, it's ilegal???
the diffrents between 502 to 601 it's something like 70$-90$ ..
and it's not "That" risky to convert it..
just wondering if it's can be ilegal.. (i don't think so ?!)

nope

only if you modify the RF section of a TX do you need to worry about legalities. That is FCC worries (or whomever regulates the radio spectrum in your area.

Futaba could care less, as they have a new gyro/servo coming out.
