I have read in Ray's bible that you should remove 3 oz fuel and replace with 4oz of Klotz 200 synthetic oil. Has anyone tried this with their engine(mine is an os 50) and is it worth the investment and time for the little extra lubricant.

I used to do that all the time but I emailed morgans and they suggested not to do it because it will actually lower the nitro content a bit and the extra oil isn't needed. I haven't added any oil in the last four gallons and I haven't noticed a difference in performance at all. Most good Heli fuels have at least 18% oil and that's all you need. You could add some oil at breakin but if you run the engine rich enough that isn't needed either. Now car fuels on the other hand have real low oil content and I still add oil the that fuel.

4 ounces sounds like a lot of extra oil.

I add 2 ounces per gallon on 15%CP for break-in of a new engine.
After that I usually just add an ounce per gallon of the Klotz Synthetic Raciing Oil.

I have been doing that ever since I have been flying helis .. I was told by a friend to that seemed like he knew what he was talking about .. Anyway since I have been doing it for 2 years now ..I have ran the same fuel in several engines on planks that were kinda balky to me and they even run better .. I would never quit doing that .. Klotz oil is good!!!!!!!!!!By the way ,I have never had an engine quit since running klotz oil .. I dont know if that is the reason but I have been flying for 30 years plus and it has never been that way before for this long .. I also run Cool Power 15 % nitro ..You dont usually have to drain any fuel to get 3 or four oz in the bottle ..you just have to be careful when you go to fill the tank the first time you dont spill any...

Extra oil.

I add about 2 oz of klotz oil per gallon of CP 15% and it really makes a difference in cooling in a 30 size engine, since i've started adding the extra oil, I dont get that hot exhaust smell, and it runs perfectly fine. CP 15% has only 17% oil, OS recommends a minimum of 18% in their operating instructions.

Adding oil

As for adding extra oil for extra protection after brake-in,,,
for a motor that has been broken in well, I would think you don't need to add extra oil, but some say that their motors do run better/cooler !!, but maybe that extra oil allows you to lean your motor more because it should run cooler ??!,,,,, and adding extra oil to any 2 strokes fuel (gas or glow) will make it last longer and run cooler,,,,,,,,,

Why I think you don't need the extra protection,,,
Cool Power 15% nitro has 17% synthetic oil, that's 21.76 ounces of oil to 1 gallon, that's a lot of oil for a gallon of fuel !!,,,,,,,

For braking-in a new motor I would say use Castor,,,
for braking-in my new OS 50 I added Byrons Castor Brake-in Lude to Cool Power 15% nitro,,, for the first "1/2 gallon" I add 3 ounces, (1/2 gallon I said !!) that brings the oil content up to 22%, I flew the heli very very rich for this first 1/2 gallon, the carb was so rich on it's first tank that it burned about a 1/2 tank of fuel to climd-out just 6/7 times to 20/25Ft, that was full throttle !!,,,,,,,

For the next "first full gallon" I added 3 ounces of the Byrons Castor Brake-in Lude, that brings it up to "all most" a 20% oil content, now I will just fly it quite rich,,, for the 3rd gallon I will add 2 ounces,,, and for the 4th gallon I will add only 1 ounce,,,,,, Castor is a fantastic lude and cooler for your motor, but it stains,,,,,,, so adding 3.75 ounces of oil to a full gallon of 15% C-Power brings it up to an oil content of 20%, and 5 ounces would up it to a 21% content, 5 ounces sounds like a lot,,, but Byrons new blend 15% nitro has 20% oil, synthetic only !! ,,,,,,,,,

Now, all my friends never add extra oil, for planes or helis, they just run them rich for a while !!
