Howdy gang.
Has anyone used different tail blades other than the stock ones on their Sceadu? If so which ones and what length?
Cheers,
Will

I am using SAB tail blades. If I remember correctly they are a couple of mm's less than the stock blades. They work fine.

I'm using SAB 95mm on my .50 size. It has helped the backwards flight quite abit and has enough clearance (600mm main blades) to where I don't worry about hitting them.

OK this is what I was hoping, cos I think the stock ones are not all that great for backwards stuff.

Original Tail Blades are OK!

Dear Friends,
I fly with original plastic blades since I have my Sceadu 50, it really works fine with those blades.
I do everything, tail down spirals, fast backwards flights, and never ocurred any kind ok thendences...
I think there is no need for changing tail blades.
Fun,

I don't concur. I've done some fast backwards flight and unfortunately the tail just couldn't hold and she blew out. I think some of that is because I havn't cut out the tail fin yet. I just put a set of Freya tail blades on and I'm going to try them this weekend.

Since I havn't done any real backward flight yet. What do you mean by "blow out".

I'm guessing it's when you are going so fast that the tail gets caught in the wind and just swings because of the force against it. Nothing the gyro/servo/blades does keeps it straight because of the forces being applied???

Come next season this is one area I am looking at really working on that and basic inverted flight.

The tail blow out is basically when you are flying in backwards flight and the tail comes around without warning.

Most of the time it takes x amount of input to the rudder to keep it straight. Sometimes the tail blades or the gyro just don't have enough authority to keep it straight.

I'm not saying a better pilot couldn't keep it straight, but it just seems like the tail blades stall and don't produce any usable counter torque.

I'll let ya'll know if the Freya blades work out better, and I really think they will.

I'm using NHP 85's. they don't fit in the grip well, but do provide the necessary umph... I'm gonna track down some sab's, they fit correctly and are big enough.

I've heard good and bad on the stock blades. I have not tried them yet.

My tail was blowing out in fast backwards flight, the solution was to increase the atv on the rudder, I'm using the 401, and the limits wer maxed, but rate was very slow on the initial flights...
