Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Header Tank

I put a header tank on my Hawk IV. I thought that towards the end of my tank without the header it would really start to lean out. With the header tank it has solved this and it runs the same throughout the tank. And there are the other reasons to have a header tank which is not what this is about.

My question is that I thought the header tank was supposed to stay almost full throughout the run. Instead, my header tank is about 1/3 full and doesn't get any more or any less than this. As the main tank burns, the header only stays at 1/3 full. Does it have to be a certain way up or down (ie could it be upside down?)?

I have the line going to the carbureator on the extra plug just while it's on the shelf.

Thanks,
Dan

Yes I believe you have you tank upside down. The fuel should come in from the main tank on the top just like it was your vent. This should keep the header full. My two work great with the line in from the main tank up.

Yep, upside down, you can just fuel it upside down until the header is full and it will work just fine.

flip it over

The line that runs between the header and the main tank needs to be at the TOP of the header tank.

That way, when you fill it up, you connect your fuel pump to the header tank's clunk line (plug it in where the fuel filter is now), and the air in the header tank will be able to exit the header tank, so you can get the header tank completely filled with fuel. After a flight the header tank will probably have some air in it, but probably not more than about 1/3 full of air. Nowhere near 2/3 air, that's for sure.
