Go download the AMA 2005 RC Heli Competition Regulations. Setup a contest box as described in it. Get you a partner in helping you spot your heli over the cones (WalMart has the ones you'll need) as you fly the Class 1 maneuvers. (*I say class 1, not knowing your skill level, so that would be a good place to start). Mind you, you don't have to start at Class 1. Study the 3 different classes of maneuvers, and start in the class you will be comfortable with.
Also, if you haven't been to a contest before, GO. There is one coming up in Nashville, TN. Look for it in the 'Events Section' here on RR. Not only will it help expose you to what is involved in contest activities, but you can also get valuable help in setups with your machine, and radio!
Many of the folks that are posting here about FAI/F3C setups and contest flying will be there! (GM1, Wayne Mann, Dr. Ben, Don Wade, to name a few). By attending and participating, you soon get the idea of what is involved, and start becoming comfortable with your new setups on your machine. Not only that, but you'll meet some of the most enjoyable fellow pilots to be around! The fun we have during, and afterwards at dinner, is something you'll have to experience! Unforgettable!
Keep in mind, the skills needed to fly Competition is akin to the skills of a 'Commercial Pilot' in full scale aircraft. "Precision" flying is what you'll be doing! It will make you a better R/C Pilot (IMHO), and prepares you better for handling those unexpected surprises that we all encounter from time to time!
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE..and then, PRACTICE so more!
LOL
I think you get the idea! |
