Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > AVANT - S9252's vs S9255's

Anyone using S9255's on CCPM? How do they compare to S9252's?

Here are the specs @ 4,8V;

S9252 - 0.14s, 91.6oz/in (6.5kg/cm) Plastic geared.
S9255 - 0.17s, 112oz/in (8kg/cm) Metal geared.

Would the S9255 be too slow? What speed servo does Curtis use? I read it might've been 0.19s!

Wayne Mann said the S9255 is a big improvement over the S9252. That it holds position better throughout the whole sweep or the like. Also it works better with the 14MZ. I think he said on his Caliber there was less interactions. Don't forget he said the 14MZ runs CCPM better than the 9Z.

I wonder if the S9255 is designed with FAI in mind or what??

A mate reckons the S9252 is best (he doesn't know about the S9255) as it's the right speed - not too fast as to make the heli twitchy or too slow.

Then there is the gears, it seems that metal gears develop more slop than plastic. Anyone agree?

Ta for taking the time to read!

Agree on the metal gear wear.
9252's are just too well proven imo, and also on the Avant thread, I think it has been said that 9252's are a good match ? (maybe wrong though)

What servos?

I just did a similar comparison recentlty on the best Futaba servos. I've just ordered an Avant and decided on 3 x 9451 digitals for cyclic. The 9255s don't seem as fast on paper even though they have more torque.

There is quite a lot of overlap between the specs of the latest digitals (9351, 9451, 9255) and price difference is minimal. It is confusing!

I'm not using the new 14MZ yet and I plan on running at 4.8v.

Does anyone have experience? Have I bought the best ones (9451) for blistering quick CCPM response and holding power?

(Please don't recommend anything other than Futaba, I'm not interested.)

9451 have similair specs as the 9252 at 4.8 volts.

Hi,

I'm using a 9255 in the collective of my Evo 50 and it's clearly slower than the 9252's. Don't know how that would be in flight, but I had a 9350 and it was definitely faster and as powerful as the 9255.

Curtis uses JR 8311 servos with 8417 gear sets installed which make the servos faster. The stock specs for the 8311 are 0.18 sec, 125 oz/in at 4.8 V. So, he is even faster than that.

I use 9255s in my Freya and Freya WC. I don't feel that there is significant difference in terms of speed but I agree the metal gear is an improvement to those in 9204 and 9206. Because, with the same machine/same setting, slop was developed in 9206 much faster than these 9255s.

I am running the 9451 servos on the cyclic on my Avant. They are not alot faster than the 9252, but they are smoother. The 9252 is a bit jumpier throught each step of the transmiter than the 9451. If you are at a level that can really tell the difference, get the 9451. Otherwise, the 9252 is a great servo for most all heli applications, and almost identical to the other servos.
