Anybody able to get G2 to work with a USB Microsoft joystick? I don't have an interface.

Thanks

Did you get it working yet on your G2? Nolan

I see you have this post for awhile now. I just got a copy of the Real Flight G2.. I use the Microsoft Precision Pro USB Joystick. Works Great for me.

These posts really make me sick!
All G2 come with either the dummy box or the interface. If you don't have either it's clearly a bootlegged copy of the software.
Go and ask KnifeEdge to see if they could get it to work with a USB stick and see what they'll respond!
In the meantime go and download the freebie sim FMS from http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html and play with that one!
If you steal software at least don't advertise it on the 'net!

Why the outburst ? G2 will work with a joystick to USB converter. I use G2 with my lap top which does not have a game port. So when I travel I can take RealFlight with me. I opted for the dummy box because RealFlihgt will not work with all 9z's hence I needed a game port adapter. Seems to me it would be relatively easy to take it the next step and program a Joystick to work with it as long as it was programmable.

It is possible that I have misread the poster's question, however I haven't seen any reference to using a laptop or he/she wants it to work with the USB joystick IN ADDITION to the standard dummy box.
I think most current PCs on the market have a gameport (less laptops) so a dummy box should work fine for most applications. Why would anyone use a joystick instead of the dummy box or interface unless they don't have neither (I know, the laptop issue, but besides that)? That just sounds lame.......

If I jumped at the wrong conclusion, I'm sorry and my bad, but chances are that I am sadly correct and we're talking about "getting copies" the wrong way.

I can see someone is blowing smoke out of his ears. .. If real flight insist user to use their interface or their cheap transmitter. They won't be designing the software that have the option for Joystick is there?. That joystick option simply offers user to use the joystick if they can't quite afford their transmitter or in the process of ordering one from somewhere..

OH REALLY?

Well, where can you get one legally without the interface/stick? I might be blowing smoke from my ears but you clearly try to blow smoke up to somewhere else
The joytick option is there so they didn't have to desing some sophisticated gadget to control it instead they could use the standard game port.

Like I said if you can't afford the interface (BIG BS, you can't afford the software), get FMS for free! For $200 I think G2 is a gret deal it will save you thousands in the long run!

The only thing that keeps me happy is that you won't be able to upgrade to their latest heli physics without registration......

There are plenty of legit reasons to use a joystick.

1. You don't have a gameport.
2. The crappy GreatPlanes controller wore out.
3. Your kids want to play and you don't want them to get grape jelly on your $400 transmitter.
4. You use WinXP or 2000 and the RealFlight interface won't work.
5. You paid a heck of a lot of money for a computer game and you want to try all the features.

Since I posted this AM I tried my USB Nest with my desk top. Works fine in fact when you go to the G2 calibration screen it has options for different types of Joysticks. I am going to use the USB nest with mine from now on. That way I can put the dummy box away between use and just hot swap it through one of my computers front USB ports. Thus keeping the clutter off my desk and avoid sliding my CPU out to attach the plug to the game port.

yo greg, the only reason you are mad about people gettin copies is because you werent fortunate to be able to find somewhere that could get you g2 for $20 instead of $200. unless you work for great planes i dont see why it should concern you. i dont have any sims, i think the bast way to learn is actual flying. no hard feelings tho greg, just my view.

Greg

I ask a simple question and get some crap out of you. Sad Sad

Why don't you take your mighty than thou attitude and use it to do better than acting like you know more than most with your 2 heli experience.
No Monitors needed here. Mr RC universe monitor.

Just my Humble Opinion

The G2 was loaded by a friend and we tried it on my machine. It's wouldn't finish the install because I had upgraded to DirectX 8.1 and it doesn't see what it's looking for.
It work fine on my wifes computer though. Only difference is DirectX 8.0
After the updates it might work ok on DirectX 8.1 as my friend updated his DX to 8.1 after the upgrades.

I was thinking of keeping it on the wifes computer but I deleted it. I have no desire to sit and get greef from her by using HER computer.
If there's anything I need to simulate it can be done on FMS and some burned nitro.

I am not mad for not getting a bootlegged copy for $20 instead of the $200 I paid for mine, I think G2 was worth the $200, it paid for itself when I took out my heli for the first time, no training gears, and put it in a steady hover.

I do beta testing for KnifeEdge, the developer of RealFlight and RealRace softwares, I do know the guys who actually put in the hard work to make the G2 a success. So when I hear about people "getting copies" I know whose dinner table they are "borrowing from".

"Mr. RC Universe monitor"

I have moderator status over on R/C Universe, which I think is a great forum, so far I only edited ONE post and that post was a personal attack against me and made me feel violated. Other than that I read the posts as others and try to stay out of the battle that went on a couple of weeks ago.

Vetrider, as long as you didn't make a copy of G2 to run it on your wife's machine but used your friend's CD I think you're OK. I do loan my G2 to friends with the dummy box just to try it out. But if they like it they buy it.

I might have jumped to the wrong conclusion at first, but andymcallister's and Heli_Gal's post show that there are some who get copies at discount.

I am no Mr. Goody twoshoe's myself, had I worked for Microsoft I might be mad at myslef too

ok here my theory , may be my control broke and cant get any parts to fix it at a reasonlable price . may be my nephew does have use of one hand and im tring to find a way to rig a control system to help us fly together him using a joy stick and me on the box ,or may be it just a question just to try something different like with fms . its one of them you pick it . but tell you the truth , i feel like you call someone a thief. i dont think that was to damn cool . thanks nolan for tring to help i didnt mean for you to be know as thief . as for any one else words are the worst thing of all . if you dont know the person watch what you say.

"a little search goes along way" and "copy and paste" works just as well.

I understand your thinking on the people whose work gets taken. I have no problems with that it's just you seem to come on strong and I can be the same way.

I think RC Univ is a VERY large forum covering everything RC related.

I apologize for jumping your s*#t. My jumping to conclusions

I don't doubt your monitoring morals over there but here your sometimes short and blunt on your suggestions.
You have a damn fine website and your skills are evident.

We can all get along.

Vetrider, thanks for the last post, I feel the same way about myself, I'm glad you put it in perspective. Sorry if I came out all wrong, sometimes I read stuff into posts that is not even there.

Anyway, I'm glad we got all that cleared up instead of name calling and bashing, so let's get back to what we all like to do: TALK HELIS!
