I've had my eye on getting a high-quality micro electric since I fell in love with my cheapo ESky HoneyBee (I have a Raptor 50 as well). I had my heart set on a T-Rex for a long time untill I came across the X-400/T-Rex comparison at trex-tuning. The X-400 just looks to be a slightly better machine in stock form. Here is my setup...

-----
Ark X-400
Mega 16/15/3 motor
CC PHX 35
HS 56 (4)
Hitec Micro Electron 6 receiver
Futaba GY240 (*EDIT* changed to a GY401)
TP2100-3S
Phoenix USB Link
Futaba 9C
------

I've just gotta add a that Wes from www.modefosheli.com answered a total of 11 messages from 7:00PM up to after 1:00Am when I finally got the setup I wanted. Not a single reply took longer than 10 minutes to arrive, he gave me a very good package deal, and I can't recommend these guys enough.

I'm looking forward to getting some videos of the X-400 this weekend and posting them here.

Fantastic, you will love putting it together. I have both, the Rex and the 400. they both have their own little quirks while constructing. Either one is worth the investment. I must say though, that head on the 400 is really sweeeeet.

We are fortunate to have such great support from several resources. Great to hear!

I got the heli put together minus electronics. I had a couple times where I did something wrong, but nothing major. Overall a very enjoyable build. Its great having such a high quality(for the most part) heli in stock form.

A couple questions...

Do most people use a connector (like deans) to connect the motor to the esc, or just do a direct solder? I would think a direct solder would be best since I won't be disconnecting the motor very often.

W/o the motor in, if I spin the main blades, they come to a stop within a few rotations. I'm used to my raptor 50 that will take about a minute to spool down. Do you think I have excessive friction somewhere, or is this normal.

Philip,

no worries about the spool down, what with the belt drive and the slightly off main gear (mine too but no concern) it's to be expected.

As for the motor to the ESC, I used gold bullet connectors, really nice connection and you can disconnect it as well.

I use deans on all batteries to ESC.
