Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Caliber 30 very poor cooling system

I think Caliber 30 has very poor cooling system. It almost always overheat in FFF. Setting needle way rich causes performance degrade. Do I have to modify the cooling system to the sealed type as in Concept 32VR?

Over heating not a problem with either of my caliber's

Over four gallons through one of the two calibers' that I own. You must not have the engine adjusted properly?

I have two caliber 30s. One runs an OS 32 and the other a Webra 35.
Both hellicopters fly great and neither has a cooling problem. Take yours to someone experienced and get that taken care of.

Resolved...

It surely have poor cooling system. It should be modified. I resolved the overheating problem with modifying the cooling system. Now there is no more overheating problem.

Hi,

can you give some hints on how you modified it?

modifying cooling system

Do you have any overheating problem too, Andi?
Because, I think it's very weird that nobody at here do not have the problem.

Hi,

I don't have a Caliber at all, but I know of several Sceadu 50 Pilots with heat problems (0% Nitro).

So I wanted to know if there is much to do to get a better cooling system (caliber 60 is almost nonexistant here due to the cooling which needs 30%nitro).

Regards,

Andi

Andi,
The book named by 'Ray's Authoritative Helicopter Manual' has the detailed information about the modifying cooling system.

No cooling system probs on my caliber either. It's actually much better than the system that is on the JR venture (which I also have) I can lean the engine out much more on my caliber and get noticeably more power out of it. Sounds like you have a motor that's too lean or have some driveline binding of some type.

I'm using PowerMaster 15%.

uraldum, There is no binding in drive train. As for the needle, if I set the needle at the point where the overheating is not occured, the heli has not enough power. I think Caliber 30 is designed for 30% fuel. My conclusion is that to use 15% fuel, the cooling shroud must be modified.

I use powermaster 15% as well. Just don't use the all synthetic stuff. I've seem to have much better luck with the 18% synth/castor blend oil. Good luck.

Hi,

What motor and muffler are you running?

The die cast mufflers generally are not large enough and will cause the motor to overheat. Quite a few of the nice alluminum mufflers available (tt, century, hatori, etc) for the 32's are'nt large enough for the newer 36/39's.

Hi Auger.
I'm using normal die cast muffler that is included in kit. And the engine is OS32. I think the die cast muffler has enough size for 32 size engine and even it has dual chamber. It's almost same as Hatori's tuned muffer for 32 size engine. IMHO, the die cast muffler do not cause any overheating problems.

you may also want to check the mid range mixture on your engine. This is the little brass flat head screw inside the throttle arm. If this is set up to lean, you'll overheat at partial throttle settings (hover). Maybe try to richen that up a bit (only 1/8 or less turns at a time) and see if that helps.
