GEEEEZZ!

I quit. I got my parts today, put the Tiger spindle in hoping that would clear up the vibration. Next I started to put fuel in and noticed that it didn't look right so upon further inspection I see the clunk line is cut and has fallen off in the tank. Removed, replaced, re-fueled, to the field. Fired up, ....yup, you guessed it, still vibrating. continue to fly looking for possibles, notice the fuel is foaming like crazy, to the point it's leaning out the mix from the air bubbles! continue a little further hoping to figure that one out,....hhmmm what's that sound?? Oh yeah, there goes the clutch bell, AGAIN! land, shut down, pack it in for the day. Not a happy camper. Beginning to remember why I quit flying helis. think I'll go cut the grass, hope the tractor doesn't die.

Remember the note that John sent out awhile back about the clutch bells, that not all of them had been properly sealed with loctite? If the bearing was not worn too bad you're supposed to be able to clean everything and re-seal the bell into the bearing. Apparently mine is too worn. I cleaned everything and re-sealed it with red loctite but it didn't hold. I only got about 2 flights out of it till it came loose again. I guess I'll have to send for a new bearing this time. I'm just not looking forward to tearing this thing apart, ....again. It's been sitting in pieces more than it's been together!! I wanted to take it down to Linglestown to show some other pilots this week but that's not going to happen now.
And I still have the freakin' vibration!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Tiger. I think it's as good a machine as any of them. I'm just tired of working on it!! I can't become a better pilot if all I do is work on it!! I haven't been able to really focus on flying yet, all I've been doing is concentrating on adjustments!

(forgive me, I'm venting )

Oh well, the sun will come up tomorrow

OK, that's what I thought. I had the same thing happen to me and asked John to look into it, what I'm doing now is putting a little JB Weld on the top of the pinion to fill in the low spots and putting it back together. That may be what was causing your vibration, the pinion moving slightly against against the main gear, although when mine spun on the bearing I didn't notice any shaking or loss of stability, you never know these things are spinning at 1800-1900.

Get'er back in the air, I'm waiting for John to call me back to see if I can get some pinions, my bell and liner are in perfect shape.

Yeah, I was thinking that may be the cause of my vibration also. How tight of a fit should that bearing be on the pinion? I'm thinking it should almost be a press fit. I took mine out and I can actually rock the bearing back and forth on the shaft slightly. I don't think it's supposed to be that loose. I don't thing JB could even fix that! Guess I'll email John,..........again.

Not if it's that loose

I would replace the pinion and bearing, and use the JB weld before putting the new bearing on.

John emailed me tonight and said he should have pinions in about 10 days, he does have the bell pinion combo in stock.
