Well, I saw these at the Toledo Show and had to give one a go, just to keep my curiosity in check...
So I picked one up from my LHS and put it together to try it out over the weekend..... I stayed completly "Box Stock" for the first day out with it, even using the included wood blades..
It took about 4 hours total to have the ARF version completly set up and hovering on Saturday morning, and I must admit that this is one very gentle flier in this set up....
It is desinged for the beginner and the experienced modler in mind so it is a very simple task to go from mild to wild in no time at all...
So Saturday was spent doing some nice gentle flying with a total of (7) diffferent pilots, of different skill levels, flying it, and the comments ranged from, it really feels soft, but also very solid, to WOW, that is how it comes out of the box!!!
Saturday evening I took it home and gave it a good look over and then set up the stunt curves so that on Sunday we could get a little better idea of what this unit was capable of, and the only difference was the stunt curves and a set of 600mm c/f blades..
Again, a tank of fuel to fine tune the settings and the same (7) pilots to ring it out....and on the second tank it was doing loops, rolls, inverted flight, flips and full down autos just for kicks.... and the only change was the curves and the blades....
I would have to say that Audacity Models has an unknown WINNER on thier hands, and that once a few people start trying these out, you will hear a lot more about them.... their site is: www.audacitymodels.com
and John is also very pleasant to talk to, which is another welcome change to some in this hobby....
I am looking forward to adding a few of the "pro" parts and letting this thing really loose real soon.... This would be a good addition to anyones hangar whether you are just starting out or an "Old Timer" looking for something new to have some fun with.... give it a try...

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

Good report. I too saw the Tiger 50 at Toledo and was impressed. It seems like a good value; if the support is strong it'll be another leap forward for the hobby.

did you or any of the test pilots compare it to another ship
like a Raptor and better or worse?

Comparisons

Yes, actually I did do that... I did the intial set up on Saturday with the Tiger 50 and on Sunday I did the set up on a new Raptor 50 that had just been completed...
In "my own opinion" I really did like the feel of the Tiger over the Raptor... now take into account that both of these units were brand new and the initial set ups that I did were for the new pilots that were going to be using them... It just had a more "locked" in feel in the hover and slow forward flight, and in FFF the Tiger, even with the stock dampers and wood blades just seemed to track better...
I really do like this heli....
The servos in the Tiger were JR 531 53oz and the Raptor had Hitech 63oz (don't remember the number but they had the karbonite gears) and both had 401 gyro and 9254 servo combo's.
So the radio equipment was about the same too....

I, too, saw that one at Toledo, and was very interested. I'm glad to hear it flies good, but my worry was parts supply (with it being new).

It looked like they pulled a lot of the better features from the Raptor, the EVO, and some from MA, and put them together into what appeared to be a well engineered heli.

Flying a heli is like seeing the Matrix, it is a mind bending experience.

I would have to agree with you about taking some good from each... and yes it does work....
As far as the parts support goes, John has assured me that he has what we will need on hand, so at this time, until the LHS starts to stock, it will be mail order, but that is no big deal either these days...
Another thing that I like is that there is a registration card included in the box that you fill out and send in, and that way they have a good idea of who owns one of these and they can contact them with any upgrades or news about it, and they send you a free pair of 3D paddles and a 3D flybar for filling it out.... not a bad marketing idea....

It would be really nice if there website actually had some pics of the mechanics. Not just 10 pages of the heli with the canopy on it.

One thing I would like to see in a heli I'm thinking about buying is the mechanics of the machine.....

I would like to know if it has a driven tail.
I would like to see the servo positions
I would like to see the geometry of the push-rods

etc.

I haven't even gone through their site since I saw it at the Toledo Show, and had all of those answers before I made my purchase... But I am sure that John will be able to fix that if someone mentions it to him, and I am going to be talking to him again soon about some upgrades, so I will make certain that he takes a look at this post...
As far as the driven tail, no not in the stock configuration, but a slipper is available (one of the upgrades that I am ordering)..
And if you would like, I can put some shots of the insides on an email to you.....just send me your email and what you want to see....
I figure you have to be an "alright" person if you made "the list" not once but TWO TIMES.......

Really glad to see word is getting around!!! Yeah the build times are a little inaccurate, as I built my Tiger kit in about 3 hours. I am very excited that this heli is getting out there a little bit. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Billy

This is a good heli for beginer but not for hard 3D. I set up for Daved Gutierrez and the spindle will bend in flight on every flight!

Please more details? What dampers were you running? blades used? How tight were the blades in the grips? What manouvers caused the spindle to bend? First I have heard of this

Heavy 3D

I would have to agree with Chongolnee in the repsect that this is an entry level heli that is going to be an excellent "trainer" heli that will take you up to all but the hardest of the 3D moves.....
It is not going to bend spindles during the learning curve and it has plenty of "GO" built in so that you can learn each step of that new stunt.... Keep in mind that this is an "ENTRY LEVEL" machine and the price is $299.00 for the ARF, not $1500.00+++ for a kit..... there is a reason there is a difference...
The red dampers that were mentioned can be used to tow a car..... I am surprised it only bent the spindle....and the manuevers mentioned will also bend and break parts on that $1500+++ kit too....
So lets keep this in the proper perspective...

I am hoping to post some pic's of the set up later...

I disagree with the above comment. Eric Larson, Matt Botos, Marcus Kim, HC, Clintstone, and I all abuse our sub 1500.00 Furys and we don't bend or break the machines in flight. Aside from size, that's one of the major difference between inexpensive and higher priced machines. Most of the more expensive machines tend to hold their settings better and hold up better to extremely abusive flight. With the exception of the gas powered machines, I've never seen a Fury or equivalent 90 sized machine that was setup properly break in flight. The same isn't true for the EVO and I guess we're now hearing the Tiger. Of all of the inexpensively priced macines, the raptor 50 is still king in my book. It doesn't track as smoothly through maneuvers as some of the other 50 machines, but you can abuse them like no other 50 and they just take it. At the end of the day of "You get what you pay for" holds true.

In the case of the evo, it only seems to be the spindle, which there is a hardened version by QuickUK, which cures that problem (about the only problem)

Misunderstood

Hi RH,
I wasn't trying to say that the high $$ units were bad, and I agree entirely with you that with a proper set up they do take the obuse of extreme 3D....
But there are guys out there that can bend anything.... bottom line....
but then it comes back that the unit is a POS....
I still have the original spindle in my EVO, and I have had to "bail" out of some "extreme" 3D moves to miss mother earth... and I'm not a 3D'r
I also feel you hit it right on the head with the tracking on the Raptor, and this is what I had noted about the Tiger.... it doesn't have the "pitchy" feel of the Raptor in FFF.....
The only real point that I am trying to make is the same as yours.... this is an entry level unit.....
As far as the Raptor being the King..... that is fine.... and yes it will take a beating.... and it has been around for some time now, but there is room for the new kid.... some people are just wanting a change...
And the Tiger offers the use of the new electronics that the "newer" pilots are wanting... CCPM is standard (easy set up is an understatement), low parts count (inexpensive to repair), and sport equipment (inexpensive to set up) can be used and it still feels like a much higher priced unit in flight...
