Hi, I'm looking for my second heli. I'm still learning on my LMH and I'm now ready for a bigger one. I wonder if the Hawk 4 is a good heli, I mean reliable and trouble free out of the box. The price looks very good.
I want my heli to be as quiet as possible, so what is the most quiet muffler for the .32 SX-H?

Also, wich one between the Raptor and the Hawk 4 is having the cheapest spare parts?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks......Sylvain

Hawk IV is very cost effective, parts are reasonably priced and the kit comes with a superb muffler that others upgrade to for their Raptors, Shuttles etc.
Can't lose with a Hawk

As far as crashing goes, nothing can beat the price of a Raptor. A bone-stock Raptor30 is the cheapest to repair. All you have to do is find yourself a good mailorder house with competitive prices.

Having said that, I have only owned one brand of Heli, Century Hawk III and Hawk SE. And I still prefer it over the Raptor.

I think the biggest problem with the Raptor, other than what you read on the Raptor forums, is the "upgrade-itis" problem. See all those shiny blue anodized parts? You just gotta have 'em. Crashing gets more expensive this way though. There are guys out there that have more money put into their Raptor (in upgrades), than what an Excel Fury Extreme costs. I think they should have just bought a Fury Extreme...

With the Hawk, you can't be tempted! No one sells shiny stuff for them. Only replacement parts, and upgrade parts that actually improve something. (Unfortunately, this may change in the near future, as Hawk's are getting real popular).

So if you can control yourself from upgrade-itis. The Raptor with the BB upgrade is good. So is the Hawk IV. Go to your local flying field and and talk to these guys and see who's going to help you and fly what they fly. They can help you better this way.

First, check you local hobby shop and see if they carry any repair parts for RC helo's. Most hobby shops carry repair parts( Crash ) for one brand of helo or another. If they have a stock of a brand of one of the brands you are considering that will prob. be your best choice. It's nice to be able to repair a crash over night and be flying the next day instead of waiting three to ten day for parts. I ordered parts last year from century and it took ten days to get them .

If they don't carry any parts or you don't have a local hobby shop, your pretty much left with mail order. If you have to mail order parts you can go with pretty much anything you want.

Here is a link to Rick's old page which still works, it has a comparison chart on it where you can look at thing like crash index cost, kit cost and complexity of the helo's your looking at.

I like the Raptors but the Hawks aren't to bad, if you do go for the Hawk get a SE, The upgrades that come with the SE are what the hawk needs to be a good helo.

Say away from the Thunder Tiger engines if you not a engine person, If broke-in and set up they make more power than the OS but only about 1 person in 20 can get them to run right. OS is the way to go for the average person.

Stay with a helo that has an up-grade path to a .50 size engine, Raptor's and Hawks both have this path. It's the best way to get more power when when your ready for it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the good informations. My LHS carry both the Hawk 4 parts and Raptor parts so this won't be a problem. Another thing I must say is that I want to fly scale not 3D. Is the Hawk ready to fly without modification or upgrades right out of the box?

Thanks........Sylvain

The Hawk should be fine for scale applications but I still recommend the SE Model.

Raptor 30, initial cost is reasonable, repalcement cost are cheap, economical on fuel, easy to build/repair and fly well for the $'s.
Good Luck!!!!!!

Second Heli - Scale

Sylvain,

I agree with the Hawk, and if you have the budget for the SE so much the better, because the all scale Hawk mechanics (Bell 222, Airwolf,Jet ranger, Augusta 109, A-355 TwinStar etc.) use the lower profile SE lower frames. Only the Schweizer 300 is compatible with the standard lower frames.
